This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Learning Designer (Contract Position) based in Australia.
As a Senior Learning Designer, you will lead the design and delivery of high-quality learning experiences across complex education projects. You’ll combine learning design expertise with project leadership, stakeholder management, and team mentorship. The role involves shaping engaging online resources, activities, assessments, and digital learning environments across higher education disciplines. You’ll collaborate closely with subject matter experts, teaching staff, clients, and distributed teams to turn educational goals into effective learner experiences. You’ll also contribute to business development, thought leadership, and the continuous improvement of learning practices. This is a fully remote contract opportunity offering significant autonomy and influence across diverse learning initiatives.
You’ll provide senior-level leadership across learning design projects while ensuring high-quality outcomes, strong relationships, and effective delivery. Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage client and senior stakeholder relationships across multiple projects and large-scale work programs.
- Lead projects and teams, provide mentorship, contribute to thought leadership, and support strong performance and collaboration.
- Develop and maintain effective team processes, capabilities, communication practices, and culture.
- Apply learning theories, pedagogical techniques, and knowledge of learning ecosystems to design and develop high-quality learning resources, activities, and assessments.
- Contribute to business development through client presentations, proposal writing, opportunity development, and relationship management that supports repeat business.
- Oversee multiple complex projects concurrently, ensuring effective planning, resource management, communication, governance, and delivery within agreed expectations.
- Identify project, portfolio, and team risks and issues, taking timely and considered action with clients and project teams to address them.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and teaching staff to co-design innovative and engaging online learning experiences.
- Work independently and effectively within distributed teams using a range of digital collaboration tools.
- Create high-quality, student-facing learning materials aligned with appropriate Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and industry standards.
- Promote health and safety by following relevant policies and procedures, taking reasonable care of personal and team well-being, and leading by example.
Requirements:
You’ll bring substantial experience in higher education learning and teaching, combined with strong learning design, leadership, and project management capabilities. The ideal profile includes:
- An undergraduate degree and 5+ years of experience working within a higher education or university learning and teaching environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in designing and developing high-quality online learning content.
- Proven experience managing people and complex programs of work while consistently delivering outcomes within budgets and timelines.
- Strong understanding of learning theories, pedagogical practices, and their application alongside current and emerging educational technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, students, clients, and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to explain complex educational concepts clearly to different audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an adaptive, innovative, and solutions-focused approach.
- Experience integrating educational technologies, interactive media, and digital resources into curriculum design and learning management systems.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and navigate complex environments focused on quality improvement, innovation, and technology-enhanced learning.
- Proven ability to take initiative, lead projects, overcome obstacles, and work effectively with a high degree of independence.
- A Master’s degree or comparable experience would be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of the higher education sector and current online education trends in Australia and internationally is desirable.
- Dual-sector education experience would be an advantage.
