Job Description

SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Shop Foreman, the Trailer Inspector is responsible for the inspection of our various types of company trailers and tractors by using company and industry standard methods and criteria to make sure the unit is safe to be on the road.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs inspections of units entering the yard to ensure the mechanical compliance with company, OSHA and DOT requirements
  • Inspects tires, lights, brakes and other exterior components for safe operating conditions
  • Inspects units arriving to and from Mexico for damage and/or mechanical defects caused by Warren and Mexican contractors, reporting to foreman
  • Adheres to C-TPAT compliance, including looking for any signs of equipment tampering, false compartments, signs of unauthorized contraband or cargo
  • Uses tablet to record tire pressure and tread depth, inspect items and records defects
  • Mark units inspected with proper tagging of pass/fail, following company procedures
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, ensure established safety procedures are implemented and followed
  • Required to work occasional overtime and other shifts vacancies as needed
  • Perform shop clean-up and housekeeping responsibilities as well as other miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • General mechanical skills
  • Previous experience performing electrical troubleshooting and ability to read installation manuals
  • Ability to complete paperwork with minimal supervision
  • Strong work ethic and sense of integrity; trustworthy
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works outside and is exposed to all weather elements, including: extreme heat, wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. The employee is frequently required to stand or walk for long periods. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, push/pull up to 50 lbs., and twist. The employee is frequently required to move parts or supplies and can lift up to 100 lbs. The employee must frequently use fingers, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. This position is safety sensitive; therefore, subject to random drug testing

The essential functions of the role depend on in-person oversight, coaching, and real-time collaboration with management and operations staff. Remote work would remove the employee from direct supervision and eliminate the immediate coaching and escalation support that the position requires. Because these functions are essential to the role, and remote work would not allow the employee to perform them effectively, working from home is not a reasonable or effective accommodation.
