Job Description
Mills James is seeking an experienced Video Specialist to join our Live Events team at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. This hands-on role is responsible for preparing, installing, programming, and operating video systems that power memorable live event experiences.
As a Video Specialist, you will serve as a V1, V2, or Video Team Lead, providing technical leadership and creative execution for corporate meetings, conferences, live productions, and hybrid events. You will collaborate with producers, designers, technical directors, and production teams to translate creative concepts into flawless visual experiences for in-person audiences, livestreams, and recordings.

What You'll Do
Deliver Exceptional Video Experiences
• Prepare, install, program, and operate video systems for live events.
• Direct the video components of productions as a V1, V2, or Team Lead.
• Oversee camera operations, video playback, graphic cueing and content execution.
• Ensure video systems are configured and operating safely, efficiently, and reliably
Collaborate Across Production Teams
• Attend production planning and pre-conference meetings with Producers and Production Managers.
• Partner with internal and external Graphic Designers and the Mills James visual effects team to bring creative concepts to life.
• Work closely with Lighting Directors to optimize stage lighting for live and remote audiences.
• Collaborate with Audio Directors to ensure excellent sound quality for recording and streaming needs.
Lead and Support Event Crews
• Supervise and coordinate crews of 2 to 10 employees, freelancers, and vendors.
• Provide leadership during event installation, rehearsals, live shows, and strike.
• Evaluate freelance talent and recommend resources for future projects.
• Maintain a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Equipment and Technical Management
• Create and maintain documentation for video installation, patching, programming, and operation.
• Assist in resolving equipment resource conflicts and recommend rental solutions when necessary.
• Partner with the Director of Operations to organize, maintain, and improve video equipment inventories.
• Manage expendables and replacement parts to ensure event readiness.
• Troubleshoot technical challenges and develop creative solutions under tight deadlines.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in live event video production.
• Advanced knowledge of live video technologies, including:
o Projection alignment and image blending
o Video switcher programming and operation
o Camera operation and camera direction
o Video engineering, playback, recording, and signal flow
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn and utilize Mills James Media Pulse facilities management software.
• Valid driver's license and medical card required (CDL may be required).
• Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience directing live corporate events, conferences, and hybrid productions.
• Experience leading technical crews and coordinating multiple vendors.
• Familiarity with large venue production environments and convention centers.
• Strong communication and client-service skills.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and move event production equipment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical work for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in convention centers, hotel ballrooms, backstage areas, and other event environments.
