Friends School is a Quaker, co-educational, college preparatory school, Pre-K through Grade 12, in Baltimore City, enrolling 803 students, 44% of whom identify as children of color. We are guided by the Quaker ideals of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship. We strive to be a purposefully inclusive community that reflects the racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, and religious diversity of our city and our region.

Position Overview:

Friends School of Baltimore seeks a caring, flexible, and proactive Pre-Primary Support Associate to provide daily support across our Pre-Primary program. This individual will work closely with teachers and administrators to help ensure a smooth, joyful, and responsive learning environment for our youngest students.

The ideal candidate is observant, adaptable, and able to anticipate classroom needs. Rather than being assigned to a single classroom, the Pre-Primary Support Associate will move throughout the program, providing assistance where it is most needed on any given day.

Because this role also provides an additional layer of health and safety support for our youngest students, current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is required. The individual should be prepared to assist in the event of student illness, injury, or a medical emergency, working within their training and certification and in coordination with the School Nurse and administrators.

Essential Responsibilities:

Classroom Support
  • Provide flexible support across Pre-Primary classrooms as needed.

  • Assist teachers with classroom activities, transitions, and routines.

  • Support individual students or small groups during learning experiences.

  • Help maintain a calm, organized, and engaging classroom environment.

  • Observe classroom dynamics and proactively offer assistance where needed.

  • Assist with materials preparation, classroom setup, and cleanup.

Student Support
  • Foster a warm, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all children.

  • Support children's social-emotional development and independence.

  • Assist students during transitions, outdoor play, snack, and other daily routines.

  • Help ensure student safety and well-being throughout the day.

Health & Safety Support
  • Provide additional health and safety support for Pre-Primary students as needed.

  • Respond appropriately to student illness, injury, or medical emergencies within the scope of CNA training and School protocols.

  • Work collaboratively with the School Nurse, teachers, and administrators when a student requires medical attention.

  • Maintain student privacy and confidentiality regarding health information.

Lunch Coverage
  • Provide daily lunch coverage for both the PK and K lunch periods.

  • Supervise students during lunch while maintaining established routines and expectations.

  • Support a positive, respectful, and community-oriented lunchtime environment.

Collaboration
  • Communicate effectively with teachers and administrators regarding classroom and student needs.

  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing priorities throughout the day.

  • Support the mission and values of Friends School of Baltimore and contribute positively to the school community.

Qualifications:

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required.

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

  • Experience working with young children, preferably in an early childhood setting.

  • Understanding of child development and play-based learning.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple teachers and classrooms.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Patience, warmth, flexibility, and a genuine love of working with young children

  • Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

  • Experience in independent schools and/or a play-based early childhood program.

  • Experience supporting young children with health or medical needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to actively supervise young children indoors and outdoors.

  • Ability to lift, bend, kneel, and move throughout the school day.

  • Ability to participate in classroom activities and playground supervision.

  • Ability to respond promptly to student health and safety needs.

Friends School of Baltimore actively promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion in all programs and operations, including admissions, financial aid, and hiring. To form a community that strives to reflect the world's diversity, we do not discriminate on the basis of race or color, religion, nationality, ethnicity, economic background, physical ability, sex, gender identity or expression, or sexual orientation. Friends School of Baltimore is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates of color and members of other underrepresented groups who might enrich and diversify the school community are strongly encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should apply by completing the online application on the school website.
