Job Description

Technology Manager – Private Household

We are seeking a highly capable, resourceful, and service-oriented Technology Manager to oversee the technology environment of a private household. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, staying ahead of emerging technology, and making sure everything works seamlessly—from computers and mobile devices to networks, security systems, audiovisual equipment, and smart-home technology.

The Technology Manager reports directly to the Principals and serves as the primary technology resource for the household team. This position combines technical expertise with strong communication, discretion, organization, and a willingness to take ownership of projects from start to finish.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, supporting users with varying levels of technical experience, and partnering with vendors and contractors. Because this position is part of a private household team, flexibility and a team-oriented attitude are essential. From setting up technology for a special event to helping address an unexpected household issue, the successful candidate is willing to assist where needed.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage and maintain computers, tablets, smartphones, servers, software, databases, cloud services, printers, copiers, and phone systems.

  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware, software, workstations, networks, and related systems.

  • Oversee access controls, CCTV, security systems, home automation, backup power, car-related technology, and other connected household systems.

  • Maintain reliable and secure network access for household staff and guests.

  • Develop and maintain technology policies, procedures, passwords, IP address records, inventories, and operating documentation.

  • Monitor technology security, identify potential vulnerabilities, and promptly escalate or address security concerns.

  • Maintain and enforce AI usage and cybersecurity policies, including phishing-awareness exercises and staff education.

  • Research emerging technologies and make thoughtful recommendations regarding new equipment, software, services, and systems.

  • Manage technology budgets, purchases, licensing, warranties, upgrades, disposal, and vendor relationships.

  • Provide onboarding, orientation, training, and individual support to staff and household team members.

  • Set up audiovisual and PA equipment for events; test systems in advance to ensure a smooth experience.

  • Record, edit, and organize event videos, interviews, and other digital media.

  • Support occasional website updates, photo scanning, digital organization, and other technology-related projects.

  • Create and maintain a procedures manual and cross-train team members to ensure continuity of support.

  • Hire and manage IT professionals, contractors, and specialized vendors when appropriate.

  • Assist with occasional household projects, errands, event preparation, or unexpected situations as part of being a dependable member of the household team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technology Environment

Experience with some or all of the following is helpful:

  • Google Workspace and Microsoft Office

  • Fortinet, Ubiquiti, and Meraki

  • macOS and Windows environments

  • Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Podcast

  • Dashlane

  • Audiovisual and PA systems

  • Smart-home, security, access-control, CCTV, and network technologies

  • AI tools and cybersecurity platforms

What We’re Looking For
  • Several years of experience supporting technology in a private household, executive residence, small business, or similarly high-touch environment.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.

  • Broad knowledge of hardware, software, networking, cybersecurity, cloud services, and audiovisual systems.

  • Excellent judgment, discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage projects, vendors, budgets, and competing priorities.

  • A proactive mindset and genuine curiosity about new and emerging technologies.

  • Comfort working independently while collaborating effectively with the broader household team.

  • Flexibility and a willingness to occasionally assist outside traditional IT responsibilities.

  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively to urgent or unexpected situations.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally for technology-related errands or vendor visits, if required.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically versatile professional who enjoys variety, values trust and discretion, and takes pride in creating a secure, reliable, and seamless technology experience. If you are someone who anticipates needs, solves problems creatively, and enjoys being the person others can rely on, we encourage you to apply.
