Columbus House opened its doors in 1982 to provide services for men and women at least 18 years of age. Our goals quickly broadened from the mere provision of food and shelter and simple survival, to understanding and working toward overcoming the problems which cause people to become homeless.
Columbus House, along with its core of loyal supporters, friends, and volunteers, has remained committed to fulfilling its mission: "To serve people experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk by providing life-saving outreach, shelter and housing and by fostering their personal growth and independence. We advocate for and create affordable housing to end homelessness in our communities."
Purpose
Under the direction of the Director of Veteran Services & Middlesex Emergency Services, the Residential Supervisor registers and provides supervision, safety, organization, and program management support to Harkness House residents. The Residential Supervisor will also collaborate closely with the Harkness House Coordinator, Veterans Administration, Recovery House Staff, and other community-based providers. Columbus House residential staff will provide an environment that reflects the core values of Trauma-Informed Service: Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration and empowerment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform hourly rounds Supervise Harkness House residence to ensure compliance with all house rules Assist in providing security of Harkness HouseMaintain hourly logs Collaborate with other agencies and social service providersOversee intake, departures and daily roster and programs Supervise resident choresAttend agency and program meetings as scheduledComplete all required reports/incident logsEnter data into the computer as directedProvide shift coverage to other RS staff (Recovery House) when neededRemain on-site to perform essential functions during emergency situations as designated by the Chief Executive OfficerOther related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalentDemonstrated the ability to manage, motivate and direct consumersA complete knowledge base of all aspects of the delivery of residential services for the homeless population Excellent organizational and time management skills with a deadline-oriented mindsetAble to lead educational groups Proficient in Microsoft Office and other common desktop applicationsAble to effectively use the local network of substance abuse, mental health, and social services providersFamiliar with mental health, substance abuse and dual diagnosis issues and group dynamicsKnowledgeable of local housing and vocational/entitlement programsCulturally competent; must possess the capacity to work within a team and foster teamworkGeneral understanding of crisis intervention skills, confidentiality, boundaries, universal precautionsAble to meet all documentation requirementsAble to promote a Harm Reduction philosophy within the work environment Strong empathic skills coupled with a high degree of reliability and punctuality
Supervised by: Director of Veteran Services and Middlesex Emergency Services
Salary: $18.54 per hour
Schedule: Saturday 5pm-10pm, Sunday 5pm-10pm and Tuesday 5pm-10pm
