ABOUT US

Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) is one of the largest and most experienced providers of services to youth in Washington, DC. Our mission is to improve the lives of runaway, homeless, abused, neglected, and/or at-risk youth and their families in the Washington, DC area. We achieve this by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training, and positive youth development activities to approximately 1,500 youth and 5,000 family members each year. With more than 30 years of experience meeting the growing needs of DC’s youth and families with innovative programs, Sasha Bruce Youthwork is always willing to listen and ready to help.

ABOUT THE JOB

Reporting to the REACH Program Manager, this is a full-time, non-exempt level position. The Supervisory Youth Engagement Specialist (YES) is responsible for monitoring the safety and conduct of house residents, and providing clinical and crisis intervention. They are also responsible for helping to provide oversight in the absence of the Program Manager. Specific duties include:

● Provides on-site supervision, while maintaining professional boundaries with residents;

● Leads the planning and/or direct support for recreational, educational and therapeutic activities;

● Provides crisis intervention and on-site counseling to youth in residence; supports REACH YES to deescalate situations;

● Provides training to REACH staff; provides coaching to YES staff;

● Assists with coverage gaps when needed;

● Oversees regular house check inspections inside the building and in the area immediately outside, and check individual rooms when necessary;

● Maintains all necessary records, including but not limited to legible, comprehensive and accurate reports of house activities in the house log; ensures other YES are maintaining records; completes quality assurance paperwork and administrative audits regularly;

● Carries out emergency fire evacuation, and emergency procedures in case of an illness or accident;

● Provides office coverage, answer and record all phone calls and visitors, maintain supervision of the house, enforce house rules and ensure house safety;

● Participates in training provided or recommended by the Agency;

● Participates in regular supervision with program director;

● Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings and other meetings/activities identified by the program director;

● Assist with training new and existing staff of the various procedures and systems of the REACH program.

● Being available to assist with coverage during staff shortages

● Being available to respond and support staff with crisis issues with youth

● Medical - Make sure the client medical form (Triage) is filled out by the nurse, if not report to assistant director.

● Education -Make sure Educational progress notes are done on any highlights or concerns as it pertains to school.

● Make sure daily progress notes are filed in book

● Group Sessions There should be a minimum of two group sessions per week that are filed in residents binder if not informed the assistant director.

● Make sure UI's are documented on unusual incident form

● Weekly Progress Notes- Make sure weekly progress notes are documented weekly

● Make sure daily progress notes are documented and filed

● Make sure Official & Non Official Contact is documented (Send out reminders to Case Managers to make sure they are filled out)

● Please note that all reviews must be forwarded to the Assistant Director and CC the Director

● Assuring that 3 fire drills are completed per month

● Other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU

● A degree in social service or related field is recommended however will consider 3-5 years experience and High School or GED in Human Services or related field (preferably working with adolescents/young adults).

● Must be able to drive SBY vehicles to transport staff or youth, as needed

● Must possess a valid driver’s license; and clean driving record and the ability to obtain/pass all required DC clearances
