Job Description
Patient Financial Advisor
Full-Time Position/40 hours per week
Shift Hours M-F, 8AM – 4:30PM

Scheurer Health, a Critical Access rural hospital, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Financial Advisor to join our team in Pigeon, MI. The ideal candidate will have experience as a patient financial counselor and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Screening: Interview patients and families to evaluate their ability to pay and determine eligibility for government or internal assistance programs.
- Insurance Verification: Verify insurance eligibility, check benefits, and obtain necessary pre-authorizations for medical procedures.
- Cost Estimation: Calculate and explain out-of-pocket costs, deductibles, copays, and good faith estimates to patients prior to or during treatment.
- Assistance Program Navigation: Guide patients through applications for Medicaid, Medicare, state programs, and the hospital’s charity care programs.
- Payment Collection: Establish structured payment plans and collect point-of-service payments in a professional, compliant, and empathetic manner.
- System Documentation: Maintain precise records of insurance details, financial agreements, and patient notes within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with accounting, billing and collections
- Knowledge of healthcare insurance programs
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to interpret payer guidelines, billing guidelines and financial policies
