Job Description

Software Engineer II, - Ads

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer II, Ads based in Canada.

The Software Engineer II will help build and scale a rapidly growing advertising platform serving major retail and enterprise partners.
You’ll develop publisher-facing products across APIs, ad serving inputs, reporting, and partner configuration tools.
Your work will directly influence how retailers manage advertising performance and deliver reliable experiences to their customers.
You’ll tackle challenging distributed-systems and data-integrity problems across shared serving, measurement, and quality infrastructure.
The role combines end-to-end ownership with close collaboration across Product, Enterprise Solutions, and specialized engineering teams.
You’ll operate what you build in production, with a strong focus on observability, reliability, security, and partner SLAs.
This is an opportunity to take meaningful ownership early in your career while contributing to a high-visibility growth area in a fast-moving environment.

Accountabilities
  • Build and ship publisher-facing features end to end across storefronts and API partners, including API endpoints, serving inputs, reporting experiences, and configuration tooling.
  • Extend partner-facing APIs with clear contracts, resilient event handling, dead-letter recovery, integration testing, and self-service documentation to improve onboarding and reliability.
  • Develop retailer control capabilities such as relevance and quality-score inputs, reserve pricing, ad-load controls, and other signals that help partners optimize advertising performance.
  • Strengthen reporting and data integrity across partner systems, including attribution, catalog and product-ID mapping, reconciliation, and automated health monitoring.
  • Improve platform reliability by helping define and meet partner SLAs, strengthening observability, reducing incidents, and improving time to recovery.
  • Diagnose and resolve partner-facing serving and reporting issues by tracing root causes across shared serving, measurement, and quality systems.
  • Collaborate with Product, Enterprise Solutions, and multiple Ads engineering teams to deliver initiatives spanning different services and technical stacks.
  • Own features throughout their lifecycle, from design and development through testing, production deployment, monitoring, and on-call support.
  • Apply AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to increase engineering velocity while maintaining high standards for quality, reliability, and security.
  • Contribute to technical decisions and engineering practices that enable the advertising platform to scale with growing partner and business needs.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional experience building and operating production backend services.
  • Strong understanding of API design and distributed-systems fundamentals, with proficiency in a backend language such as Go, Ruby, or Python.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver production features end to end, including testing, observability, deployment, and operational ownership.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex issues across service boundaries and working effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working in ambiguous environments where requirements and priorities can evolve.
  • A proactive ownership mindset and willingness to take responsibility for systems and features throughout their lifecycle.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
  • Experience with advertising technology, retail media, or publisher- and partner-facing platforms is a strong advantage.
  • Familiarity with event-streaming and reliability patterns at scale, such as Kafka, dead-letter queues, and idempotent processing, is beneficial.
  • Experience with AWS or GCP cloud infrastructure, particularly around data or measurement systems, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of data reconciliation, attribution, catalog systems, or entity mapping is advantageous.
  • Experience building customer- or partner-facing APIs, including documentation, error contracts, and integration testing, is preferred.
  • Comfortable using AI-assisted developer tools as part of the software development lifecycle while applying sound judgment around quality and security.
  • Candidates must be based in one of the eligible Canadian provinces: Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia.
Benefits
  • Compensation: CA$145,000–CA$153,000 base salary, depending on permanent work location, experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
  • Equity: Eligibility for a new-hire equity grant as well as potential annual refresh grants.
  • Remote flexibility: Flex First working model, allowing employees to choose where they do their best work while maintaining connection through regular in-person events.
  • Health and benefits: Access to competitive benefits designed to support employees across their respective Canadian locations.
  • Work-life flexibility: A workplace model designed to provide flexibility around where and how employees work.
  • Growth opportunity: Join a rapidly expanding business area with significant technical challenges and opportunities for ownership.
  • Collaborative environment: Work alongside talented colleagues across engineering, product, enterprise solutions, and other functions.
  • Inclusive culture: Be part of a workplace committed to building diverse teams and creating an environment where different perspectives and backgrounds are valued.
  • Meaningful impact: Build technology that supports an essential service and helps retailers and advertisers connect with customers through food and commerce.
