Job Title: Driver
Department: Shipping and Receiving
Reports To: Production Control Manager
Job Summary:
The driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods using small van-type commercial vehicles. This role involves delivering and picking up items from suppliers and customers within, but not limited to, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. The driver ensures that all deliveries are completed on time, accurately, and in compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Operate a company-provided van to transport goods safely and efficiently.
• Deliver and pick up items from suppliers and customers as scheduled.
• Plan and follow the most efficient delivery routes while adhering to traffic laws.
• Load and unload goods, ensuring proper handling and accurate documentation.
• Maintain clear and accurate records of deliveries.
• Provide exceptional customer service and maintain professional interactions.
Vehicle Maintenance Responsibilities
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to identify potential mechanical issues.
• Monitor tire pressure, fluid levels, lights, brakes, and other essential components.
• Keep the vehicle clean and organized, both inside and out.
• Report any damage, defects, or maintenance needs to the supervisor or management.
• Schedule and coordinate routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
• Ensure compliance with company vehicle safety policies and local regulations.
Receiving/Warehousing and ERP Transaction Responsibilities
• Receive incoming shipments, verifying items against packing lists and purchase orders.
• Check for any damaged or missing items and report discrepancies.
• Accurately process Epicor system transactions for received goods, ensuring proper inventory tracking.
• Perform inventory control functions, including issuing assembly kits to the manufacturing floor, conducting cycle counts, and maintaining accurate inventory records.
• Ensure parts are packaged securely following operation sheet guidelines and/or work instructions to meet or exceed quality and safety standards.
• Support the shop floor team by cleaning parts trays, organizing materials, and disposing of waste properly.
• Other Duties as assigned by supervisor
Flexible Hours Policy
The driver position requires flexibility in scheduling due to varying traffic conditions and unpredictable return times. While the standard business hours for the building are 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, the driver’s schedule may vary within reasonable limits to accommodate delivery demands.
The driver has the discretion to adjust their start time, provided that it is no later than 7:30 AM, without prior supervisor approval. Additionally:
• Their total hours worked must remain generally consistent with their expected schedule.
• Any significant deviations from their typical working hours should be communicated in advance when possible.
• If the driver expects to return later than anticipated or beyond their shift schedule, they must notify their supervisor as soon as possible.
• Overtime is permitted only with prior supervisor approval.
This policy allows for necessary flexibility while maintaining accountability and ensuring operational efficiency.
Requirements:
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs. minimum.
• Proof of Clean Driving record provided through your town police department.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be forklift certified or able to attain within 3 months of hire.
• High School Diploma Required.
• Ability to self-prioritize tasks effectively to align with and achieve company goals.
