Company founders, Harold and Gerry LaValley remain active in the business, and the LaValley brand today consists of 14 locations that offer our customers a “one stop shop” for all of their building needs.

About the Role:

The Entry Level Draftsman will play a crucial role in supporting the design and engineering teams by creating detailed technical drawings and plans that accurately represent architectural or engineering concepts. This position involves translating preliminary sketches, specifications, and verbal instructions into precise digital drawings that serve as the foundation for construction, manufacturing, or product development. The draftsman will collaborate closely with customers, sales and project managers to ensure that all drawings comply with industry standards, codes, and client requirements. Attention to detail and a strong understanding of drafting principles are essential to produce clear, accurate, and comprehensive documentation that facilitates smooth project execution. Ultimately, this role contributes to the successful realization of projects by providing high-quality technical drawings that guide the work of various stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or similar drafting tools.
  • Fundamental understanding of technical drawing principles and drafting standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or certificate in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software such as Revit, SolidWorks, or SketchUp.
  • Familiarity with construction, architectural, or engineering terminology and processes.
  • Knowledge of building codes, manufacturing standards, or industry-specific regulations.
  • Prior work experience in a drafting or design support role.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and revise detailed technical drawings and plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software or manual drafting techniques based on project specifications and instructions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to understand design requirements and incorporate feedback into drawings.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with relevant industry standards, building codes, and company quality guidelines.
  • Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and project documentation for easy retrieval and reference.
  • Assist in preparing presentation materials and documentation to support project proposals and client communications.

Skills:

The required skills, including proficiency in CAD software and a solid grasp of drafting principles, are essential for producing accurate and detailed technical drawings that form the basis of project execution. Effective communication skills enable the draftsman to understand project requirements clearly and incorporate feedback from engineers and architects, ensuring alignment with design intent. Attention to detail is critical in identifying and correcting errors or inconsistencies in drawings, which helps prevent costly mistakes during construction or manufacturing. Preferred skills such as experience with 3D modeling software and knowledge of industry standards enhance the draftsman's ability to create more complex and comprehensive designs, improving overall project quality. Together, these skills support the daily tasks of creating, revising, and managing technical documentation that drives successful project outcomes.
