Overview
This position is located in Kittery, Maine.
A Manufacturing Technician is a multi-disciplined person that must have one or more skills within the trades. Welders, Electricians, Pipefitters, Shipfitters and Outside Machinists will be preferred and considered first. Other Manufacturing Technicians such as Tool Crib operators, Carpenters, Sheetmetal workers and Material Handlers may be considered at the discretion of the employer.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Job tasks include layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, components and deck packages. Individuals need to develop a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations. Work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures. Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces.
- Responsibility for welding with high quality, speed, and efficiency
- Expectation that final will meet internal policy standards and UT / RT acceptance criteria
- Welding on a wide variety of materials, using an ever-growing number of welding processes . By process comply with local hot work procedures
- Welding structural assemblies using GMAW and SMAW during fabrication and installation of submarine construction
- Participation in continuous training in traditional and new welding processes, using both conventional and state-of-the art equipment (Qualification required for each process)
- Use of pneumatic tools such as grinders, burr tools, wire brushes, etc.
- Oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon/arc gouging as well as verifying weld size using weld gauges
- Reading and interpretation of weld symbols, technique sheets, and work packages
- Additional tasks as assigned, e.g., removal of cables, removal and installation of components, fabrication on/off hull, etc.
- Work in horizontal, vertical, overhead and flat positions
- Work at heights, tightly confined spaces conditions as required
- Available to work all shifts
- Must be able to work in all environments as well as Radiological areas of the boat
- Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
- Some lifting, climbing, bending will be required
- Selected applicants must be available for travel to offsite facilities to work up to 11 months per an assignment.
- Must be able to obtain a DOD SECRET security clearance.

- Knowledge of welding procedures and various types of welding equipment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals and follow all written and verbal instructions as directed
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years of structural MIG welding experience or current EB structural welding qualifications - mig pulse/spray
- Selected applicants must be available for travel to offsite facilities to work up to 11 months per an assignment.
Preferred:
- 5+ years of shipfitting related experience
- Experience with Pulse, Spray and Stick
- Experience with mechanized welding
- Gouging experience
- Mirror welding experience
- Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice
- Ability to interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams
- Strong mathematical skills
- Military
