Art Director – Performance Creative & AIWork Arrangement: This is a fully remote (telecommute) position.
Employment Type: Full-Time
Department: Creative Post-Production
Reports To: Creative Director
Direct Report: Senior Editor/Designer
Industry: Digital Marketing / Performance Creative
Experience: 5–8+ Years
Portfolio: Required
We are seeking an experienced Art Director to lead concept development and own the visual standard across paid and organic campaigns.
This role sits at the intersection of creative strategy, performance marketing, and execution. You will define creative direction and ensure that the work produced delivers against that vision, from initial concept through final client-ready assets.
You will directly manage a Senior Editor/Designer, assign and prioritize work, review deliverables, provide actionable art direction, and maintain a consistently high creative standard.
Because the team works extensively with both traditional production and AI-generated creative (AIGC), you must have enough hands-on AI fluency to confidently direct generative work, evaluate output quality, identify artifacts or brand inconsistencies, and determine when AI or traditional production is the better approach.
You will collaborate closely with Client Partners and Media Strategists to translate performance insights into high-quality, scalable creative across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube.
What You'll DoCreative Direction & Team LeadershipDirectly manage and develop a Senior Editor/Designer, setting priorities and managing capacity across accounts.
Review video, motion, static, and AI-generated creative before it advances to the Creative Director or client.
Provide clear, actionable art direction across composition, typography, layout, pacing, color, motion, and brand consistency.
Identify whether creative challenges originate from craft, concept, or the brief and address them at the appropriate level.
Maintain a high creative standard without becoming a production bottleneck.
Lead the development of creative concepts, campaign ideas, and visual narratives across multiple client accounts.
Translate briefs, brand guidelines, and performance insights into clear creative direction.
Develop concept decks, storyboards, briefs, visual references, and prototypes, primarily using Figma.
Use AI tools to develop visual references, storyboards, creative examples, scripts, and ad copy aligned with each client's brand.
Direct AI-generated work by evaluating generation quality, identifying artifacts and off-brand outputs, and improving prompt and reference strategies.
Stay hands-on when necessary by sketching, mocking, or prototyping creative directions.
Own the creative process from brief through final build and delivery.
Guide production and revision rounds while balancing creative quality with efficient iteration.
Review both internally produced and creator-generated content.
Oversee final assets across static, video, and motion formats, ensuring they are complete, properly versioned, and platform-ready.
Improve briefing, feedback, documentation, and AI production workflows to reduce unnecessary revision cycles.
Partner with Client Partners and Media teams to turn campaign performance insights into creative direction.
Apply learnings from high-performing hooks, formats, visual systems, and concepts to future campaigns.
Make recommendations on whether creative directions should be scaled, iterated, or discontinued based on performance.
Build creative post-mortems to understand why concepts succeeded or underperformed.
Understand how creative should evolve across different stages of the marketing funnel.
Develop repeatable creative frameworks, templates, and design systems.
Create reusable art-direction standards that allow quality to scale across the team.
Maintain visual consistency across formats, campaigns, and channels.
Contribute to AI production workflows, prompt/reference libraries, and scalable creative processes.
Stay current on platform trends, emerging formats, visual styles, and generative creative tools.
5–8+ years of experience in Art Direction, Visual Design, or Performance Creative within an agency or brand environment.
Experience managing, mentoring, or formally directing at least one creative professional, such as a designer, editor, or motion artist.
Strong portfolio demonstrating concept development and visual direction across paid and digital channels.
Proven ability to translate strategy and performance insights into compelling, executable creative concepts.
Experience with social-first and performance-driven creative across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube.
Working fluency with AI creative tools such as Gemini/Nano Banana, Sora, Veo 3, Higgsfield, Seedance 2.0, or similar platforms.
Ability to evaluate and provide structured creative direction across video, motion, static, and AI-generated content.
Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to manage multiple clients, campaigns, and priorities simultaneously.
Strong collaboration skills across creative, strategy, account, and media teams.
Background in performance marketing or direct-response creative.
Familiarity with UGC, creator-led, and platform-native advertising.
Working knowledge of After Effects and/or Premiere sufficient to effectively review post-production work.
Experience creating scalable creative systems, templates, or briefing frameworks.
Experience working with offshore teams or external creative partners.
Understanding of creative testing frameworks and iterative production workflows.
Experience establishing quality standards for AI-generated creative.
You are a strong conceptual thinker who can transform strategy into creative ideas that are both visually compelling and realistically executable.
You know how to give specific, prioritized feedback that improves the work, and you genuinely enjoy developing other creatives.
You understand how to balance brand quality, performance, speed, and scalability, and you're comfortable leading the creative process while remaining hands-on when needed.
Most importantly, you have the judgment to distinguish between average and exceptional creative, including when that work is AI-generated.
