Job Summary

The Tubing Operator is responsible for inspecting, lead cutting, and tubing capacitors. Assemble according to traveler specifications while ensuring product quality and protecting delicate lead forms. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to identify cosmetic and lead-form defects before products are transferred to Final Quality Control (Final QC). The Tubing Operator also supports Block Test, Hand Test, and Taper operations to maintain continuous production flow.

Expected Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Duties & Responsibilities

• Read and follow travelers, work instructions, and product specifications.
• Select the correct lead cutter, lead style, tube size, and cutter settings according to traveler requirements.
• Safely operate foot-pedal lead cutters while monitoring cutter performance and reporting equipment issues to Maintenance or Quality Control.
• Inspect parts using visual inspection or a microscope to identify cosmetic defects, lead-form defects, bent leads, damaged parts, and other nonconforming product.
• Remove defective product from production and verify completed product meets specifications before forwarding to Final Quality Control (Final QC).
• Determine the correct quantity of parts for each tube or tray and carefully tube products to prevent bent leads or cosmetic damage.
• Install plugs securely in both ends of each tube and prepare completed product for Final QC.
• Assist Block Test, Hand Test, and Taper operations as needed to maintain continuous production flow.
• Complete travelers and production documentation accurately, restock production supplies, and maintain a clean, organized work area using 5S principles.
• Follow all safety procedures, wear required PPE, and support teamwork, cross-training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills, Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret travelers, work instructions, and production specifications.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify cosmetic and lead-form defects.
• Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling delicate electronic components.
• Ability to safely operate foot-pedal cutting equipment and recognize equipment issues requiring Maintenance or Quality Control assistance.
• Knowledge of proper lead lengths, lead styles, tubing requirements, and product handling techniques.
• Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining production pace and quality standards.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing repetitive hand and foot movements.
• Frequent use of hands, fingers, and foot-pedal-operated equipment.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Occasionally bend, reach, twist, and stretch throughout the workday.
• Excellent visual acuity to inspect small parts and identify cosmetic and lead-form defects using a microscope or visual inspection.
• Ability to maintain concentration while performing repetitive inspection and tubing operations with a high level of accuracy.

Salary includes a competitive hourly rate plus bonus potential. The expected base pay range for this position is $17.00 to $18.00 per hour, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and alignment with internal compensation practices. This range represents the company’s good-faith estimate of the compensation for this position at the time of posting. Actual pay will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, internal equity, and business needs.

This is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable federal and Virginia law.
