Job Description

Summary of Position

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries, founded in 1916, is one of the largest providers of rehabilitation services in the State of Ohio. Utilizing our retail store network, we generate sales revenue to support thousands of individuals with disabilities and homeless local veterans.

The Outlet Assistant Store Manager (ASM) supports the Outlet Manager in leading daily store operations, team performance, and customer experience. This role provides hands-on leadership across production and the sales floor, ensures operational standards are consistently met, and serves as the manager-on-duty in the absence of the Outlet Manager. The ASM plays a critical role in driving sales, production efficiency, team development and execution of Goodwill’s mission and brand standards.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations & Execution

  • Partner with the Outlet Manager to oversee daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures
  • Execute administrative and clerical functions such as cash handling, banking preparation, ordering supplies, and operational reporting
  • Ensure efficient execution of production, pricing, inventory rotation, restocking, and sales floor readiness
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and customer-ready store environment at all times

Customer Experience & Brand Standards

  • Model and reinforce exceptional customer service for customers and donors
  • Address and resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally, escalating as appropriate
  • Act as a brand ambassador, maintaining professional conduct and ensuring team adherence to Goodwill service standards

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, coach, train, and support store associates, including Merchandise Processors, Sales Associates, Outlet Team Leaders, Temporary Workers, and Program participants
  • Support onboarding and ongoing training to ensure consistent execution of operational and service standards
  • Provide feedback and partner with store leadership and HR on performance management and corrective action when needed

Scheduling, Labor & Workforce Management

  • Maintain employee schedules & ensure appropriate coverage while meeting payroll targets
  • Manage time and attendance in HRIS and ensure accurate and timely payroll submission
  • Adjust staffing levels to align with production needs, peak shopping periods, and business demands

Production, Merchandising & Inventory

  • Ensure smooth and secure donation flow in compliance with safety, security, and operational standards
  • Monitor pricing practices and merchandise quality to ensure consistency and accuracy
  • Support visual merchandising standards and seasonal or promotional initiatives
  • Assist with identifying merchandise suitable for our e-commerce platform

Safety, Compliance & Communication

  • Maintain a safe work environment for employees and customers by enforcing safety and loss prevention standards
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
  • Maintain effective communication with store leadership, other locations, and support departments

Mission Support

  • Collaborate with Employment and Training programs to support Goodwill’s mission and community impact

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Direct supervisory responsibility for Outlet Team Leaders, Merchandise Processors, Sales Associates, Temporary workers, and Program participants

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Five (5) years of Retail or equivalent experience preferred
  • Two (2) years of progressive retail leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience training, coaching, and developing associates
  • Proficiency in scheduling, payroll, and workforce management systems
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including openings, closings, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, lift, and climb for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to perform frequent computer-based work
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required

Working Conditions

  • Primary Environment: Outlet Store with warehouse environment
  • Moderate noise levels typical of a retail and warehouse environment
  • Exposure to donated goods and varying temperatures
  • Driving may be required
