JOB TITLE: HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST
DEPARTMENT: GENERAL & ADMINISTRATION
REPORTS TO: HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER
EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: EXEMPT
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
The HR Generalist, Human Resources will serve as an integral member of the Human Resources team. The HR Generalist will provide support for Odfjell Terminals in the Americas, and for OUSA in Houston. Will also be the initial point of contact for HR functions at Odfjell Terminals Charleston. In addition, the HR Generalist will be responsible for a broad range of human resource activities including employee relations, performance management, recruitment and selection, compensation, benefits, and employee training with responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide guidance and coaching to managers and employees on Human Resources related activities including talent sourcing and selection, benefits, compliance, and policy and program interpretation.
- Responsible for full-cycle recruiting and onboarding including participation in interviews and candidate selection, as well as managing the offer, pre-employment and onboarding processes.
- Provide guidance on performance management including coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions. Counsel employees and managers on confidential matters.
- Assist in benefits administration of health & welfare programs.
- Administer leaves of absences in compliance with FMLA and other federal and state laws.
- Ensure proper processes, practices, and documents are completed on all employee actions including new hires, pay changes, terminations, etc.
- Prepare and analyze reports utilizing available system.
- Processes Payroll
- Administer company benefits
- Acts as back up to the HR Manager.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- In case of absence, the employee’s supervisor will assume and/or assign responsibility for this position’s duties.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3-5 years’ of Human Resources experience
- Minimum 3-5 years’ of Union environment experience
- A PHR certification is preferred.
- Experience in creating, analyzing, implementing, and training in Affirmative Action is strongly preferred.
- Candidates must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, a customer service focus and the ability to think critically.
- A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are required. The successful candidate must be able to establish positive relationships with employees, maintain a high level of confidentiality, handle multiple tasks and efficiently prioritize work to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- This position must be able to work independently with only general or minimal supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Office hours: 8:00 – 4:30, Monday – Friday
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally
- Frequent phone calls and interruptions

- IBM PC
- Software: Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint
- Alliance Payroll, Integritime (Attendance on Demand), UHC eServices, HR SAP, Principal TRC, InfiniSource’s COBRA system
- Standard office equipment such as copier, scanner, calculator, fax, and paper shredder
