The Staff Software Engineer will play a critical role in designing, building, and scaling cloud-based distributed systems that support secure and reliable communication experiences worldwide. This position focuses on developing high-performance solutions, improving platform reliability, and creating systems capable of handling millions of transactions daily. You will collaborate with architects, product leaders, and operational teams to solve complex technical challenges and deliver impactful engineering solutions. Accountabilities:

The Staff Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and operating scalable distributed systems while providing technical leadership across engineering initiatives. The role requires strong architectural thinking, collaboration across teams, and a commitment to building reliable, secure, and maintainable software solutions.

  • Design, develop, and maintain clean, efficient, and scalable code for distributed systems and microservices.
  • Contribute to the architecture and implementation of cloud-based platforms designed for high-volume transaction processing.
  • Build reliable systems using asynchronous communication patterns and modern cloud-native approaches.
  • Define and monitor Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) to ensure platform performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with architects, product managers, and operational teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design decisions, and engineering best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to support team growth.
  • Lead and support engineering teams within an agile environment, helping drive technical direction and execution.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, responding to production incidents and ensuring system availability.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and contribute to the evolution of engineering processes and technologies.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing and operating large-scale cloud systems, with strong programming expertise and proven technical leadership capabilities. Success in this role requires deep knowledge of distributed architectures, excellent communication skills, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges.

  • 7+ years of experience designing, building, and operating high-scale, mission-critical cloud-based production systems.
  • 7+ years of experience with at least two programming languages such as Java, Scala, Python, Ruby, or Go.
  • 2+ years of experience leading engineering teams in an agile development environment.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservice architectures, and cloud-native design patterns.
  • Experience with distributed caching systems such as Redis or Memcached, including common use cases and performance considerations.
  • Strong knowledge of software design principles including DDD, SOLID, and scalable architecture practices.
  • Ability to identify potential system failures, performance issues, and architectural risks.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Passion for emerging technologies and continuous learning.
  • Experience with full-stack engineering practices is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AWS technologies and cloud infrastructure is preferred.
