Summary:

The Director of Operations assists in managing the overall operation of two or more hotels by maintaining established cost and quality standards, maximizing profits, developing and retaining employees, and exceeding guest expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage financial components of operation
  • Assist general manager in day-to-day operations of the hotel
  • Maximize financial performance and uphold quality standards of F&B and rooms department
  • Maximize room revenue by anticipating market shifts, developing and monitoring annual business and marketing plans, and participating in property sales and marketing efforts
  • Assist with the development of a business plan and a budget that defines operational goals and profitability objectives
  • Build relationships with guests and monitor satisfaction levels
  • Coordinate projects to maintain/upgrade quality standards and property image to protect assets from neglect, damage, or deterioration
  • Manage and monitor the property P&L; provide detailed explanations for P&L and forecast variances
  • Align and drive all aspects of hotel performance towards the attainment of budgeted revenue, RevPAR Index, House Profit, Flow Through, Guest Satisfaction Scores, and Quality Assurance scores
  • Understand and apply accounting principles such as accruals, prepaids, balancing daily reports, and GL coding to ensure these are understood and applied correctly by the property controller
  • Assist with selection, training, counseling, and motivating hourly associates
  • Assist in monitoring the expenses of each departmental budget
  • Participate in the development of the hotel expense budget
  • Assist hotel management and sales teams with the implementation and execution of revenue programs to ensure that the hotel’s room occupancy, average daily rate, and RevPar objectives are met
  • Balance Hotel books at the end of each period
  • Prepare audit reports for the end of period and send reports to corporate
  • Work with individual vendors to make sure services and invoices match and that we are getting the best price for supplies
  • Assist in the maintenance of the key control program that is already in place
  • Ensure the security needs of the property and guests are met
  • Ensure effective departmental communication and information systems through logs, department meetings, and hotel meetings
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Be a leader and role model to all associates
  • Degree required – minimum 2-year degree from an accredited university
  • Experience in similar leadership role required
  • Ensure goals are met for all guest service-related measures
  • Customer service focus
  • Possess advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within all hotel disciplines, including experiential knowledge for management of people and complex problems
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to bend, reach, or lift as is required in this position.
