The Cleaning Crew Supervisor is a hands-on field leader responsible for safely and efficiently managing sewer cleaning and preparation activities. This position oversees employees and subcontractors, coordinates daily jobsite operations, and ensures work is completed according to project requirements, safety standards, and Vortex procedures.
This role requires regular travel throughout the designated region, with a minimum of 50% overnight travel expected. Occasional local day travel may also be required.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and supervise daily sewer cleaning and jobsite preparation activities.
- Coordinate crew members, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to keep projects moving safely and efficiently.
- Ensure employees and subcontractors follow all Company, OSHA, client, and jobsite safety requirements.
- Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard assessments, and equipment inspections.
- Direct field personnel according to the project plan and Vortex supervisory expectations.
- Operate or oversee the operation of sewer-cleaning equipment, including jet/vac trucks and related tools.
- Confirm sewer lines are properly cleaned and prepared for inspection, rehabilitation, or other project activities.
- Review project plans, cleaning requirements, maps, and jobsite conditions before work begins.
- Identify and communicate jobsite challenges, equipment issues, delays, and changes to the appropriate project leadership.
- Provide daily updates regarding safety, production, performance, and project progress.
- Complete accurate daily reports, equipment logs, production records, and other required project documentation.
- Coordinate equipment mobilization, jobsite staging, traffic control, and site utilization.
- Monitor the project schedule and adjust daily activities as needed to meet production goals.
- Maintain effective working relationships with customers, inspectors, subcontractors, and Vortex team members.
- Ensure work meets or exceeds Company quality standards and customer expectations.
- Train and coach crew members on safe work practices, equipment operation, and job responsibilities.
- Set clear expectations, address performance concerns promptly, and help create a positive, team-focused work environment.
- Assist with routine equipment maintenance and promptly report repair needs.
- Support other field and operational responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least five years of relevant field experience, including experience as a foreman, crew leader, or supervisor.
- Sewer cleaning, jet/vac, CCTV inspection, trenchless rehabilitation, or underground construction experience preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
- CDL preferred or required based on assigned equipment and responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of construction procedures, jobsite safety requirements, equipment, and OSHA standards.
- Ability to operate or oversee sewer-cleaning equipment and related tools.
- Ability to read project plans, maps, drawings, and job instructions.
- Ability to complete accurate daily reports and project documentation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to travel overnight a minimum of 50% and work extended hours, nights, weekends, or varying schedules when required.
