Job Description
Position Summary
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting the dealership’s accounting operations by performing routine financial and clerical tasks. This role assists with data entry, reconciliations, recordkeeping, and processing financial documents to ensure accurate and timely accounting records across all departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform data entry for financial transactions into accounting and dealership systems.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing.
- Reconcile invoices, statements, and accounting records for accuracy.
- Prepare and organize financial documents for review and processing.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain accurate and organized accounting files and records.
- Support billing, payroll, and title-related accounting functions as needed.
- Research and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
- Assist with audit preparation by gathering and organizing documentation.
- Process checks, payments, and deposits as directed.
- Communicate with internal departments to resolve accounting inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with dealership accounting procedures and policies.
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work with numbers and financial documents.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.
- 1–3 years of accounting or clerical experience preferred.
- Automotive dealership or multi-department accounting experience is a plus.
- Experience with accounting or dealership management systems preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Frequent use of computers, keyboards, and accounting software.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive data entry and document handling tasks.
- Ability to work standard office hours with occasional overtime during closing periods.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a dealership office environment with frequent computer use, financial documentation handling, and collaboration with accounting and administrative teams in a structured, deadline-driven setting.
