Description

Delta Dental of Washington (DDWA) is seeking a highly skilled National Account Client Manager to join our Seattle based team. This role is responsible for the strategic planning, oversight, and ongoing management of complex commercial accounts, many of which have more than 5,000 subscribers. The National Account Client Manager serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, ensuring exceptional client satisfaction, strong financial performance, and alignment with DDWA’s mission and organizational priorities.

The pay range for this position in Western Washington is $102,200 – $160,300, and in Eastern Washington is $89,000 – $139,600. Washington Dental Service and its affiliates, including Delta Dental of Washington and Arcora Foundation intends to offer the selected candidate a base pay within this range, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience. Base pay will also be adjusted based on the candidate's geographic location.

Strategic Account Management

  • Build and implement annual strategic plans for a complex portfolio of large national accounts (5k+ lives).
  • Manage all aspects of national account servicing, from scheduled meetings to daily operational needs.
  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for brokers, clients, and other key stakeholders.
  • Act as the accounts’ connection to DDWA cross-functional teams, leadership, and enterprise initiatives.

Renewals, Pricing, and Negotiation

  • Lead renewal activities for assigned accounts, including proposal coordination, rate negotiation, and delivery of recommendations.
  • Negotiate pricing and rates directly with brokers and serve as the intermediary between Underwriting and external partners.
  • Advocate for pricing recommendations in front of Senior Leadership and the Pricing Committee.

Product, Funding, and Market Expertise

  • Demonstrate expert-level understanding of all funding types, paid loss ratios, and the impact of benefit design on claims utilization.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of DDWA’s large group product offering and how benefit modifications influence rates, utilization, and behavioral outcomes.
  • Frequently articulate DDWA’s value proposition within the competitive large group market segment.
  • Evaluate competitive positioning and routinely complete network comparisons using various reporting tools to demonstrate DDWA’s network strengths.

Analytics, Reporting, and Insights

  • Leverage key metrics from the Dental Action Report to influence client decision-making and drive behavior change.
  • Utilize DDWA’s Online Reporting tool; frequently prepare and deliver data-driven presentations for clients and brokers.
  • Provide in-depth analysis on outcomes, claims impact, clinical insights, and utilization patterns to support plan design discussions.

Client Influence, Leadership, and Mission Advancement

  • Establish credibility quickly within broker and client communities; consistently act as a trusted advisor.
  • Demonstrate exceptional responsiveness and relationship-building skills.
  • Promote DDWA mission objectives through innovative engagement strategies beyond standard campaigns (e.g., desk drops, multi-vendor partnerships, heatmap analysis, onsite dental promotion, equitable utilization of benefit initiatives).
  • Maintain a strong understanding of organizational initiatives and translate impacts to clients and stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to peers; frequently contribute insights in the development of new products, processes, or features.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop sound, data-backed strategies for plan design changes.

The experience, skills, and education needed to succeed in the position are outlined below. These requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.

  • Washington State Office of Insurance Commissioner Health and Disability License is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Superior relationship building and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Strong analytic and quantitative abilities.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce and Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
