Job Description
The Carrier Sales Representative will source and secure carriers to move freight in a timely and cost-effective manner. To be successful in this role, you will develop and grow relationships with carriers and other transportation companies. This role combines inside sales, account management, and operational activities to meet the shipping needs of our client’s customers.
Essential Job Duties
- Promptly secure top service providers to pick up and deliver a high volume of customer goods, while maintaining services as defined by customers
- Develop new and grow existing carrier relationships: cold calling prospective trucking companies
- Build strong relationships with trucking company decision maker contacts
- Leverage our load board, along with data and other resources to make informed decisions, negotiate prices, drive automation, and improve efficiency
- Ensure that carriers meet all specifications necessary to move our customers’ freight by conducting research on Driver ratings, etc.
- Identify issues and work in collaboration with other departments to determine and implement the best solution
- Work closely with Account Managers to understand customer needs and collaboratively develop solutions to increase business levels
- Ensure shipment details are accurately recorded in our TMS
- Negotiate carrier prices/rates
- Clarify load requirements with carriers and confirm they have proper information to pick up and deliver customer goods efficiently
- Proactively follow up with the dispatcher and driver to ensure load is picked up and delivered on time
- Ensure all parties are informed about route changes, delays, and freight concerns or other issues
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years of experience working in Carrier Sales
- Proficient in MS Office, emphasis in Excel
- Strong typing skills
- Effective negotiation skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable with a fast-paced environment, with a strong sense of urgency
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and can turn what some may view as chaos, into fun
- Ability to quickly pivot from one task to another and reprioritize throughout the day
- Excellent customer service, communication, and negotiation skills
- Collaborative team player and relationship builder
- Eager to learn and open to different methods of execution
- Ability to persuade, motivate, influence and negotiate with others
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Bilingual, English/Spanish
