If you’re looking for more than just a job, if you want to be part of a team that values hard work, innovation, and growth, Phoenix Manufacturing could be the place for you.The Automatics Operator I is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of various punch press machines, including hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic equipment. This role works closely with department leaders and coordinators to obtain required tooling, dies, and materials, perform machine setups, conduct inspections, secure first-piece approvals, and operate equipment according to production requirements.
The operator ensures all machinery is properly configured to punch, bend, form, straighten, cut, crimp, or shape metal components while maintaining specified dimensions, tolerances, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Essential Job Functions:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Set up and operate punch press equipment, including:
- I1 Minster #6 60T Punch Press
- I8 Bliss 110T Punch Press
- S2 Minster S.S. 160T Punch Press
• Install, align, and adjust tooling (dies and punches) according to job specifications and production requirements.
• Operate machinery to manufacture parts in accordance with engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and production schedules.
• Perform first-piece inspections and conduct periodic quality checks throughout production runs to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Utilize measuring and inspection tools, including micrometers, calipers, squares, and tape measures.
• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and sheet metal layouts.
• Set up, operate, and tend machines used to saw, cut, punch, crimp, bend, form, or straighten metal components.
• Adjust machine settings, including speed, pressure, temperature, and material feed, to ensure quality production.
• Monitor machine performance and production output to meet daily and weekly production goals.
• Diagnose and assist in resolving machine, tooling, or material-related issues in collaboration with department leadership and maintenance personnel.
• Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventative maintenance activities.
• Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance concerns promptly.
• Maintain accurate production records, including setup information, run times, inspection data, and production counts.
• Complete all required quality documentation and production paperwork accurately and timely.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment through good housekeeping practices and adherence to safety standards.
• Review work orders and production instructions to ensure required materials, tooling, and equipment are available before beginning work.
• Demonstrate an understanding of forming processes and the capabilities of various forming machines.
• Participate in training programs and continuing education opportunities to stay current with industry practices, equipment, and safety regulations.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and applicable safety requirements.
• Support other departments and production areas as directed by supervisors or management.
Accept additional responsibilities and assignments as needed to support organizational goals.

Requirements:• High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate required.
• Previous experience operating punch presses, metal fabrication equipment, or related manufacturing machinery preferred.
• Ability to safely and effectively perform all essential job functions.
• Working knowledge of machine operation, setup procedures, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in blueprint reading and sheet metal layout interpretation.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and technical documents.
• Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
• Understanding of material flow and manufacturing processes within a production environment.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
