About the Role:
The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in supporting the lead teacher to create a nurturing and effective learning environment within a Montessori classroom. This position focuses on preparing and maintaining the Montessori environment to foster independent learning and development among children. The Assistant Teacher collaborates closely with educators to implement Montessori principles, ensuring that materials and activities are accessible, organized, and conducive to exploration. By observing and assisting students, the Assistant Teacher helps identify individual needs and supports their social, emotional, and cognitive growth. Ultimately, this role contributes to delivering a high-quality educational experience that respects each child's unique learning pace and style.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience or training in Montessori environment preparation or early childhood education.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with children and adults.
- Clear background check and compliance with state educational regulations.
- Must have or be able to obtain a CPR and First Aid orientation as well as health and safety training (Provided by school)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Montessori Assistant or completion of Montessori training courses.
- Previous experience working in a Montessori classroom setting.
- Understanding of Montessori philosophy and classroom practices.
- Additional coursework or certification in early childhood education or child development.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and organize Montessori materials and learning environments according to Montessori standards and daily lesson plans.
- Assist the lead teacher in guiding children through Montessori activities, encouraging independence and self-directed learning.
- Observe and document student progress and behavior to support individualized learning plans and communicate insights to the teaching team.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly classroom environment that promotes respect and responsibility among students.
- Support classroom routines and transitions, including assisting with snack times, outdoor activities, and other daily schedules.

The required skill of Montessori Environment Preparation is essential for daily tasks such as organizing learning materials, setting up purposeful activities, and maintaining an environment that encourages exploration and independence. This skill ensures that the classroom is thoughtfully arranged to meet the developmental needs of each child, supporting their natural curiosity and learning progression. Preferred skills, such as Montessori certification and early childhood education knowledge, enhance the Assistant Teacher's ability to understand and implement Montessori principles more deeply. Effective communication and teamwork skills are used daily to collaborate with lead teachers and engage with students in a supportive manner. Additionally, organizational and observational skills help the Assistant Teacher monitor student progress and adapt the environment to optimize learning outcomes.
