Senior Director of Digital Membership Strategy

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director of Digital Membership Strategy based in the United States.

This is a high-impact leadership role focused on shaping and executing digital engagement strategies that connect millions of people with meaningful opportunities for action and advocacy. You will lead a multi-channel communications function spanning email, SMS, and web platforms, ensuring cohesive messaging and strong audience engagement. The position combines strategic leadership, data-driven decision-making, and team development to drive membership growth, deepen engagement, and maximize organizational impact. Working cross-functionally with stakeholders across campaigns, analytics, communications, and digital teams, you will transform insights into compelling communication strategies. Accountabilities:
  • Develop and execute comprehensive digital communication strategies across email, SMS, and web channels to support engagement, growth, and organizational impact goals.
  • Create integrated, multi-channel communication plans that deliver consistent messaging and strengthen audience relationships over time.
  • Establish best practices for cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment across digital, social, and advertising initiatives.
  • Partner with analytics teams to implement tracking frameworks, monitor performance metrics, and generate actionable insights.
  • Provide regular reporting and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization in external industry and advocacy communities, sharing knowledge and identifying emerging trends.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of digital strategists while managing resources, budgets, and team priorities.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of digital programs and establish processes for measuring engagement, impact, and organizational outcomes.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in digital communications, digital strategy, or audience engagement roles.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing teams, with a demonstrated ability to develop talent and foster collaboration.
  • 5+ years of experience in advocacy, public affairs, nonprofit, political, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Proven ability to create compelling communication strategies that engage large online audiences and drive measurable results.
  • Strong expertise in email marketing, SMS communications, web engagement, and audience development strategies.
  • Experience implementing analytics and tracking systems to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent storytelling, editing, and content strategy skills, with a strong understanding of brand voice and narrative development.
  • Ability to manage complex cross-functional projects and build alignment among diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with digital engagement platforms and tools such as email, SMS, website, and analytics systems.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills, with sensitivity to inclusive and audience-centered messaging.
