Job Description
The Line Service Technician (LST) is a critical member of the Black Hills Aviation ramp team, responsible for the safe and efficient handling of aircraft on the ground. LSTs perform aircraft fueling, marshaling, towing, ground support equipment (GSE) operation, and ramp safety duties. This is a hands-on, safety-sensitive role that requires attention to detail, physical readiness, and a commitment to doing things right every time.
POSITION DETAILS
Location-Rapid City Regional Airport (KRAP), Rapid City, SD
Employment Type-Full-Time and Part-Time positions available
Schedule-Rotating Shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Compensation- Commensurate with experience (TBD)
Badging Required-SIDA/AOA badge required (background check and badging process completed upon hire)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fuel aircraft safely and accurately using approved procedures — Jet-A, AvGas 100LL, and Jet-A with additives as applicable
- Perform pre-fueling quality control checks including sump sampling, filter monitoring, and fuel grade verification
- Marshal arriving and departing aircraft using standardized hand signals
- Perform aircraft towing and pushback operations as directed and within training and certification
- Operate ground support equipment (GSE) including tugs, GPU, ground power units, and fuel trucks safely
- Conduct FOD walks and maintain a clean, hazard-free ramp environment
- Complete pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections and log findings
- Follow all ramp safety procedures including PPE use, hot brake protocols, and prop/jet blast awareness
- Communicate effectively with flight crew, the CSR, and ramp team via radio and face-to-face
- Assist with de-icing operations as trained and directed (seasonal)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work in all weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, wind, and precipitation
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to follow written and verbal procedures precisely
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SIDA/AOA security badge
- Completion of all required company training and certifications upon hire
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior ramp, fueling, or line service experience at an FBO or airport
- Familiarity with general aviation aircraft types, fueling configurations, and GSE
- Experience operating fuel trucks or tow vehicles
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and working on and around aircraft
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly; up to 70 lbs occasionally
- Must be capable of climbing ladders and working at heights on larger aircraft
- Outdoor work in all seasons — South Dakota weather conditions apply
