The National Advanced Surface-to-Air System (NASAMS) is a highly mobile and tailorable capability that protects the airspace of 13 countries and Washington, DC. Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, Inc. is seeking technically skilled and mission-focused NASAMS Instructors to support training operations for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS). In this role, you will deliver classroom, hands-on, simulation-based, and field training to operators, maintainers, and end users while supporting training activities both within the United States and internationally.

You will help ensure customer readiness through effective instruction, student evaluation, training documentation, and, when required, field service and maintenance support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide classroom, practical, simulation-based, and on-the-job training for NASAMS MEIs and associated systems within assigned areas of qualification.
  • Plan, prepare, and execute assigned training activities, lesson plans, practical exercises, assessments, training equipment requirements, and course documentation.
  • Deliver approved training to NASAMS operators, maintainers, and other end users, adapting instructional methods to trainee needs while maintaining established learning objectives, technical procedures, and approved course content.
  • Monitor trainee participation, progress, and competency development through classroom instruction, practical exercises, theoretical assessments, and performance evaluations, providing appropriate feedback and documenting training results.
  • Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of training materials, lesson plans, student handouts, practical exercises, assessments, and other course documentation in accordance with current technical publications, approved system configurations, safety requirements, export-control requirements, and established review processes.
  • Coordinate training progress, technical observations, equipment concerns, and other instructional requirements with the Lead Instructor(s) and supporting technical personnel.
  • Prepare, configure, operate, and maintain assigned NASAMS systems, simulators, tools, training aids, and support equipment to ensure operational readiness and safe execution of training activities in accordance with established health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Capture trainee feedback, lessons learned, technical discrepancies, and recommended improvements; support Training Review Document updates and complete required course reports, training records, and post-course documentation.
  • Maintain required instructor qualifications, technical competence, certifications, medical readiness, travel documentation, and security eligibility necessary to support assigned NASAMS training activities.
  • Support testing, production, integration, demonstrations, logistics, training development, and other NASAMS or company activities as required.
  • Specific duties may vary based on program requirements, customer requirements, employee qualifications, and assigned mission.
  • Provide additional field service, operational, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support for NASAMS MEIs and associated systems as required, including preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment preparation, system demonstrations, and customer-site support within the employee’s training and qualifications.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s manager or supervisor based on operational, program, customer, or business requirements.


QUALIFICATIONS:

CLEARANCE:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret clearance required.

EDUCATION:

  • Associate degree in electronics, electrical technology, mechanical technology, engineering technology, information technology, communications, or a related technical discipline is preferred/considered.
    • Relevant military or technical education and experience may also be considered.

CERTIFICATION(S):

  • Formal instructor training, Train-the-Trainer certification, military instructor qualification, or other recognized instructional certification is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three (3) years of relevant operational, maintenance, training, field service, or technical-support experience involving military systems, weapon systems, complex electromechanical systems, communications systems, electronics, air-defense systems, or comparable equipment is required.
  • At least three (3) years of air and missile defense, field artillery, or related military experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information clearly, support practical training activities, evaluate student performance, and adapt instructional methods to different levels of technical experience.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to prepare and maintain training materials, presentations, assessments, and technical documentation.
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify technical or instructional issues and implement appropriate solutions within established procedures.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, students, military personnel, technical personnel, and international partners while operating autonomously within assigned responsibilities.
  • This position is located in Huntsville, Alabama, with travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations as required by program and mission needs.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three (3) years of air and missile defense, field artillery, or related military experience.
  • At least three (3) years of experience providing technical instruction, classroom training, practical exercises, on-the-job training, or formal training involving military or complex technical equipment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, or providing technical support for complex military systems, NASAMS, or other integrated air and missile defense system experience is preferred.

MINIMUM LEARNING TIME FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Learning and qualification time will vary based on the employee's previous experience, assigned duties, required NASAMS qualifications, formal training requirements, and training availability.
  • Formal NASAMS operator, maintainer, instructor, system-specific, and/or other technical training will be required based on assigned responsibilities and may include up to 30 weeks of formal/informal training at CONUS/OCONUS locations.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:

  • Rigorous indoor and outdoor activity may be required. Duties may require walking, climbing, standing for extended periods, carrying materials, stooping, kneeling, bending, and working on or around tactical military equipment.
  • Maximum unassisted lifting requirement: 50 lbs.
  • The employee may be exposed to seasonal weather, moving mechanical equipment, electrical systems, military equipment, and other conditions requiring compliance with established safety procedures and use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Job Type: Full Time, Exempt
  • Location: This position operates onsite at our Huntsville, AL facility. The ability to reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work is required.
    • A hybrid schedule may be discussed with the manager and will vary based on the needs of the customer or program.
  • Travel: Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
    • Travel may be up to 80% to include CONUS and OCONUS locations, extended temporary-duty assignments, customer deployments, and work in field or semi-austere environments.
    • The employee must be capable of meeting applicable medical and physical requirements associated with assigned deployments and may be required to successfully complete periodic or pre-deployment medical examinations.
    • U.S. Passport is required.
  • Additional program-specific training, certifications, medical requirements, customer-access requirements, or country-entry requirements may apply based on assignment.
