Job Summary:

The Senior Director – Quality is responsible for leading SPL’s overall Quality function across laboratory and field operations. This position oversees quality management systems, regulatory compliance, accreditation, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Senior Director works closely with executive leadership, operational teams, and clients to ensure consistent quality standards, operational efficiency, and technical excellence across SPL’s Energy, Environmental, and Measurement businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee SPL’s Quality programs across all laboratory and field operations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Management Systems (QMS) that support business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain consistent quality standards, policies, procedures, and accountability across all locations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, industry, and client requirements.
  • Oversee laboratory accreditation, certification programs, internal audits, and corrective actions.
  • Identify and address quality risks, technical concerns, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Maintain quality controls to ensure data accuracy, integrity, consistency, and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for significant client quality concerns, investigations, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Partner with executive leadership and department managers to improve quality performance and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and monitor quality performance metrics, reports, and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to modernize quality processes through technology, automation, and standardized procedures.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing Quality team while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Technical Services, Commercial, HSE, IT, HR, and laboratory leadership to support companywide quality initiatives.
  • Support quality integration efforts related to business growth, acquisitions, and new locations.
  • Represent SPL professionally during client meetings, regulatory audits, and technical discussions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and quality assurance practices.
  • Proven experience leading quality programs across multiple locations or business operations.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory operations, technical quality standards, data integrity, and risk management.
  • Experience with corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), root-cause analysis, audits, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to develop teams, manage change, and drive accountability.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executive leadership, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and implement effective solutions.
  • Experience collaborating across departments to improve processes and operational performance.
  • Working knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), electronic Quality Management Systems (eQMS), and related technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality excellence.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Quality Management, or a related scientific or technical field required.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Management, laboratory operations, or a related technical field, including significant leadership experience.
  • Experience in laboratory, analytical testing, measurement, or technical services environments required.
  • Energy and/or environmental industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Professional Quality, laboratory, or technical certifications preferred but not required.
Travel Requirements:

This position requires up to 30% travel within the United States to support laboratory locations, field operations, and leadership activities. Occasional short-notice travel may be required.

Work Schedule:

This position generally follows standard business hours, Monday through Friday, with flexibility to accommodate operational needs. Additional hours may be required to support business priorities and deadlines. Work location is TBD/Remote.
