Job Description

Principal AWS Architect

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal AWS Architect in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of enterprise architecture governance, cloud strategy, and hands-on AWS expertise, shaping how large-scale financial technology systems are designed and standardized across the organization. You will define and enforce architectural principles that ensure cloud solutions are secure, scalable, cost-efficient, and aligned with enterprise frameworks. Acting as a senior technical authority, you will guide engineering teams through complex design decisions while influencing cross-functional stakeholders across Infrastructure, Engineering, and Product. The environment is highly collaborative yet execution-driven, requiring strong leadership and the ability to bring consistency across distributed teams. You will play a key role in improving architectural maturity, reducing technical risk, and enabling faster, more reliable delivery of cloud-native solutions. This is a high-impact position where your decisions directly shape platform resilience and long-term technology direction.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the review and validation of AWS architecture designs, ensuring scalability, security, and adherence to enterprise cloud standards.
  • Establish and maintain standardized architectural documentation practices, ensuring consistency and accessibility across engineering teams.
  • Act as a senior advisor in design discussions, guiding teams toward adoption of certified, reusable, and cost-efficient AWS components.
  • Define and govern architectural frameworks, embedding AWS Well-Architected and TOGAF principles into engineering workflows.
  • Facilitate cross-team alignment on technical decisions by negotiating solutions and resolving architectural conflicts with stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain a structured library of approved cloud patterns, promoting best practices and continuous improvement across teams.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineering teams to improve overall design quality and architectural maturity.
Requirements:
  • 8–10+ years of experience in cloud architecture, systems engineering, or similar roles with strong exposure to enterprise-scale environments.
  • Deep expertise in AWS architecture, cloud-native design patterns, and distributed system design.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification (required).
  • Strong knowledge of architectural frameworks such as TOGAF and experience applying structured governance models.
  • Proven ability to design and review scalable, secure, and resilient cloud systems in production environments.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong experience leading architectural discussions and making decisions in complex, multi-team environments.
  • Preferred: additional AWS certifications (Security Specialty, Advanced Networking), experience with IaC/automation tools, and exposure to fintech or regulated industries.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range ($116K–$180K) with bonus eligibility.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP).
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
  • Mental health support services for employees and dependents.
  • Wellness benefits including gym reimbursement and virtual wellness programs.
  • HSA/FSA options and financial wellness resources.
  • Paid time off starting at 3 weeks, increasing to unlimited PTO after year one.
  • Education reimbursement and leadership development opportunities.
  • Certification support programs (including professional AWS and payments certifications).
