We are looking for a motivated and technically driven Co-op student to join our engineering team for a 4-month term. In this role, you will support the development of a vehicle simulation environment built in Unreal Engine 5, with a focus on connecting high-fidelity simulation to real-world AI applications.
Responsibilities:
- Support development and enhancement of a vehicle simulation environment in Unreal Engine 5
- Refine simulation entities such as vehicles, pedestrians, and environmental assets to improve realism and performance
- Develop systems to export simulation data and metadata used for AI and computer vision model training
- Work within an existing simulation codebase and contribute new features and functionality
- Support integration between the simulator and external AI analysis tools
- Help ensure reliable data flow, synchronization, and consistent simulator performance
- Collaborate with the engineering team on simulation and AI-related development activities
What You’ll Gain:
- Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5 in an engineering environment
- Exposure to AI integration and computer vision workflows
- Experience working with simulation-to-reality (Sim2Real) concepts and tools
- Opportunity to contribute to real-world engineering and AI applications
Required:
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Development, or a related technical field.
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, including a basic understanding of Blueprints, the Actor lifecycle, and the editor interface.
- Proficiency in C++
- Basic understanding of how to export data (such as JSON or CSV) from an application, or an interest in learning about synthetic data generation.
- Ability to document your changes clearly and collaborate with team members who are managing the AI side of the project.
Desired:
- A keen interest in vehicle dynamics, physics, or 3D environment creation.
- A "tinkerer" mindset—someone who enjoys diving into an existing system to understand how it works and how to improve it.
- Experience or familiarity with AI/ML models.
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.
