Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will be involved in commissioning and deploying new
machinery. With Experience in fabrication or mechanical repair (such as tinkering with
care), either professionally or as a hobby. Knowledge in Creo 3D CAD software and
having worked with PLC control systems, electronics and closed-loop based systems.
Experience using DAQ systems with basic sensors (e.g.: pressure transducers,
thermocouples, 0.5V and 4-20mA signals). The individual will need to understand and
appreciate the business and financial influence on engineering, while also being a
builder and a creator.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build prototypes for proof-of-concept testing
- Analyze test results and issue summaries with results, analysis, and recommendations to technical and non-technical team members
- Apply engineering principles to provide design solutions
- Involved with engineering, design, development, and implementation of critical components
- Design and build fixtures and sub-assemblies for use on production machinery
- Identify problems and difficulties in production, find potential solutions and implement the solution into practice
- Bring creativity, vision, and a different point of view to the team to provide unique and exciting solutions to overcome roadblocks
- Participate in all stages from identifying a need and determining a solution, through implementation and verification
- Work with mechanics and machine operators to gather insights and information to improve machinery and processes
- Work with operators to perform controlled tests to find optimal machine settings
- Assist in training machine operators
- Directly work with vendors to improve existing machinery
- Directly work with vendors to specify, design, deploy, and debug new machinery
- Perform basic cost-benefit and ROI analysis to support projects
- Monitor performance and reliability of production machinery and sub-systems
- On-site minimum 3 days per week, flexibility for up to 5 days as situations need it
- Independently maintain and keep to project schedules and timelines
- Will find a way to make it happen
- Collaborate with all members of the engineering team on their own projects, and to support others’ projects
- Maintain documentation of their work adequate for future engineers and technicians to track adherence and understand the reasoning

Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical engineering
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in product or machine design, or in a manufacturing environment
- Has worked with outside vendors to complete medium and large projects
- Has hands-on experience with mechanical systems
- Can use commercial 3D CAD software to make basic designs
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Basic data analysis skills for assessing machine performance
- Has worked with technician-level team members to complete projects
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to develop relationships and engage with people quickly
- Knowledge of common prototyping methodologies
- Knowledge of common manufacturer processes
- Not afraid to take risks and challenge the status quo
- Ability to handle multiple projects in parallel and balance project priorities
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Understanding of quality control
- Data reduction and visualization
