Position Summary:
TheUniversity of New Mexico's Department of Emergency Medicine, is seeking On-CallResearch Assistants to support medical research studies conducted within theemergency care setting. This part-time, on-call position averages no more than10 hours per week, with work hours determined by study enrollment needs. Shiftsmay include evenings, nights, and weekends.
Underthe direction of a Research Manager or Research Coordinator, the ResearchAssistant will support multiple aspects of human subjects research.Responsibilities include identifying and screening potential studyparticipants, interacting with patients and families, obtaining and documentinginformed consent, collecting research data through patient interaction andelectronic medical records, conducting follow-up communications, and assistingwith study coordination activities. The position also involves handlingbiological specimens and supporting basic laboratory processing in accordancewith approved protocols.
Successfulcandidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills,attention to detail, and sound critical thinking abilities. Research Assistantsare expected to work collaboratively as part of a larger research team whilemaintaining strict compliance with HIPAA regulations, FDA requirements, andGood Clinical Practice guidelines. All duties are performed using appropriatepersonal protective equipment in a fast-paced hospital environment thatprioritizes patient safety, data integrity, and ethical research conduct.

- A valid New Mexico driver's license will be required if a motor vehicle must be operated on the job.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

- Previous experience in clinical research, healthcare, or laboratory settings
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems (Cerner preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to follow complex protocols
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends as study needs arise
- Human subjects Protection Training and/or Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification
