Safety Specialist in Burr Ridge, Illinois at GTS Transportation

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Safety Specialist to join our transportation and logistics team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for promoting a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with transportation safety regulations, and supporting daily operational safety initiatives. This role requires strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and a proactive approach to accident prevention and regulatory compliance.

• Monitor and enforce compliance with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety regulations.
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments for drivers, vehicles, and facilities.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and safety violations; prepare detailed reports and corrective action plans.
• Maintain driver qualification files, safety records, and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate driver safety training, orientation, and ongoing educational programs.
• Monitor driver logs, hours of service (HOS), and ELD compliance.
• Communicate with drivers and management regarding safety procedures and policy updates.
• Assist in developing and implementing company safety programs and procedures.
• Track and report safety metrics, violations, and trends using computerized systems and Excel.
• Collaborate with dispatch, operations, and management teams to improve overall workplace safety.
• Respond promptly to safety concerns and provide effective solutions to prevent future incidents.

• Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and transportation safety regulations.
• Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced logistics environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and computerized safety/compliance systems.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Experience with driver safety management, compliance monitoring, or transportation operations preferred.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple departments.
