Job Description
The Medium Duty Truck Lube Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, lubrication services, inspections, and basic mechanical repairs on medium duty trucks and fleet vehicles. This position supports safe, reliable, and efficient vehicle operation by following company maintenance procedures, safety standards, and OEM specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance services on medium duty trucks and fleet vehicles
- Change engine oil, filters, fuel filters, air filters, and fluids
- Grease chassis, driveline, suspension, and steering components
- Inspect brakes, tires, lights, belts, hoses, batteries, and fluid levels
- Conduct DOT-style inspections and report safety concerns
- Check and top off transmission, hydraulic, coolant, and differential fluids
- Assist technicians with repairs and shop tasks as needed
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
- Operate shop equipment including lifts, jacks, forklifts, and service trucks safely
- Follow all company safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and PPE standards
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous lube technician, mechanic, or fleet maintenance experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of diesel engines and medium duty truck systems
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
- Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment
- Valid driver’s license preferred
- CDL is a plus but not required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, kneel, crawl, and work under vehicles for extended periods
- Comfortable working in shop and outdoor environments
- Ability to climb in and out of trucks safely
Work Environment
- Fleet maintenance shop and field service environments
- Exposure to grease, oils, diesel fuel, loud noise, and varying weather conditions
- Required use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection
Preferred Skills
- Preventative maintenance experience
- Familiarity with medium duty diesel trucks
- Basic computer or tablet experience for work orders
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to identify potential mechanical or safety issues before failure
