Job Description
The Critical Care Pastor serves as the primary pastoral responder to care needs within the WoodsEdge Community Church body. This role provides compassionate, timely, and discerning pastoral care through crisis triage, prayerful presence, and coordinated response, while equipping and leading teams who walk alongside individuals and families during seasons of suffering.
This position also supports the development and healthy practice of spiritual gifts at WoodsEdge by coaching leaders, overseeing prayer initiatives, and fostering a biblically grounded balance of Word and Spirit. Pastoral care in this role is practiced not only as crisis response, but as discipleship and spiritual formation, helping people experience God’s healing presence and guiding them toward restoration, wholeness, and renewed connection to Christian community.
Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesCare & Crisis Response
- Serve as the first line of response to care needs within the WoodsEdge body
- Assess incoming care requests, triage crises, and coordinate timely and appropriate responses
- Provide a calm, attentive, and prayerful pastoral presence for individuals and families experiencing grief, trauma, illness, loss, or major life transitions
- Refer individuals to established care resources and long-term recovery pathways as appropriate
- Operate Pastor on Call during the work week, coordinate weekend handoff to other pastoral staff, and provide follow-up for all calls responded to
- Assist ITW walk-in guests during the work week by discerning and addressing immediate needs
Teams & Leadership Oversight
- Coach, equip, and oversee crisis response care teams, including:
- Elders Hospital Visitation Team
- Chaplain Team
- Funeral Team
- Coordinate funerals, officiate services as needed, and provide leadership and oversight to funeral teams and officiants
- Equip leaders to care wisely and effectively for individuals in crisis
- Foster spiritual and leadership development among Prayer & Care Team Leaders
- Empower leaders to cast vision, set goals, and cultivate healthy, sustainable teams
- Meet regularly with team leaders for prayer, encouragement, coaching, and problem-solving
- Identify, recruit, and train volunteers to care for the WoodsEdge body
Prayer & Spiritual Gifts Ministry
- Collaborate closely with the broader Prayer & Care team, especially the Prayer & Care Resource Manager
- Assist in the development, coaching, and oversight of Spiritual Gifts ministries, including:
- Prayer Partners
- 24/7 Prayer
- Word & Spirit
Strategy, Administration & Stewardship
- Operate within designated budgets and financial guidelines
- Ensure quality, integrity, and ethical standards of care within all Prayer & Care ministries
- Practice consent-based pastoral care, seeking permission before prayer, spiritual rituals, physical touch, or sharing care-related information
- Maintain knowledge of ethical practices and safety standards that reduce church liability
- Communicate effectively and timely, generally within 24 hours
- Complete administrative responsibilities such as:
- Communication and correspondence
- Group management
- Calendaring and scheduling
- Room reservations
- Expense reporting
- Meet established and reasonable deadlines
Church & Staff Engagement
- Be an active participant and member of WoodsEdge Community Church
- Participate in staff prayer, staff meetings, training sessions, retreats, ministry-related classes, and all required staff events
- Intentionally disciple others through relational ministry and spiritual guidance
As part of your role as a WoodsEdge Pastor, you are expected to lead and engage in the following services:
- Provide:
- Religious instruction
- Spiritual counseling

- Worship services

- Developed leaders who are equipped to walk alongside individuals and families through crisis with wisdom and compassion
- Effective connection of care recipients to long-term healing, recovery, and discipleship pathways
- Individuals and families experiencing crisis are thoughtfully reintegrated into healthy Christian community and relational support
- Widespread understanding and responsible practice of spiritual gifts throughout the Prayer & Care Ministry, maintaining a strong balance of Word and Spirit

- Operates within biblical counseling guidelines
- Commitment to personal healing, wholeness, and spiritual formation in Christ
- Passion to help others experience wholeness through union with Christ
- Ability to maintain a healthy and sustainable work–life balance
- Demonstrates consistent rhythms of spiritual formation that sustain healthy pastoral presence
- Ministry experience preferred, but not required
- College degree or equivalent experience preferred, but not required
