JOB OVERVIEW
As the operations/facility coordinator for a shelter, your role is pivotal in maintaining the seamless and efficient operation of the shelter facility. You will oversee and coordinate essential functions such as staff management, facility maintenance, and program development. Your primary goal is to establish a safe and supportive environment that meets the needs of shelter residents while aligning with the organization's mission and values.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
FACILITY OPERATIONS
- Supervise the daily operations of the shelter facility to maintain a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment.
- Collaborate with directors and security to enhance the day-to-day safety and security of shelter operations.
- Ensure the accuracy of reporting bed vacancies to the Department of Homeless Services (DHS).
- Manage records pertaining to compliance with City and State regulations.
- Develop and implement protocols and procedures for facility maintenance, security, and emergency response.
- Coordinate and manage the maintenance team responsible for the upkeep and repair of the shelter facility.
- Maintain relationships with external vendors and contractors to ensure timely completion of repairs and maintenance projects.
- Manage facility inventory, material, and supply needs, and supervises the purchasing process.
STAFF MANAGEMENT
- Recruit, onboard, train, and oversee a diverse team of shelter staff members, including shift supervisors and residential aides.
- Cultivate a culture that promotes teamwork, collaboration, and ongoing professional development.
- Facilitate operational team meetings in collaboration with the director of operations.
- Identify and propose improvements to the director of operations to address gaps in the operational team's daily activities.
- Offer continuous support to operational teams, including de-escalation strategies, and crisis intervention techniques.
- Collaborate with the director of operations and shift supervisors to identify and address ongoing staff performance issues.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, facilitate staff meetings, and offer constructive feedback, coaching, and mentoring to foster staff growth.
- Provide 24/7 on-call coverage for emergency and crisis intervention across all aspects of operational systems.
FIRE DRILLS AND SAFETY
- Develop and implement thorough fire safety protocols, including regular drills, evacuation plans, and training sessions for both staff and residents.
- Ensure strict adherence to all relevant fire safety regulations and codes.
- Work closely with local fire departments and safety authorities to conduct inspections and uphold compliance standards.
- Continuously monitor and revise safety procedures based on feedback and industry best practices.
- Perform other related tasks as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERRED SKILLS
- Background in shelter environment maintenance and operations, including CARES proficiency
- Demonstrated experience overseeing operations, security, and maintenance personnel
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to adapt to new software applications
