About This Position
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary: Responsible for enhancing existing designs and developing new ones, preparing blueprints for mechanical parts, and providing technical support to clients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Writes programs for lasers.
Estimates and coordinates laser repairs and brake repairs as needed.
Manages external die repairs.
Quotes new potential work, internal projects, robotic welders, PEM Cert Machines, and roll machine repairs. Responsible for Costing analysis for the quote process.
Manages Tooling PO’s and all new tooling.
Orders and manages supplies for die sections and repair parts for tool room at all plant locations.
Submits purchase order requests.
Maintains and revises levels for the 2D prints used to write the programs for the lasers.
Maintains die designs for all facilities where necessary.
Meets with customer’s engineers for technical issues and fabrication, reduces costs and fitment.
Submits Deviations, PPCNs and RTS documentation to customers for current and new parts.
Launches prototypes for customer orders.
Submits increases of cost to customers for raw material.
Works closely with Quality Department for PPAP documentation and ensure the customer has provided all documentation for a smooth PPAP submission.
Submits tooling tags.
Maintains customer die lists in the portal.
Repairs dies and presses. Handles changeovers when needed.
Reviews new die designs for approval and error proofing.
Initiates cost savings where applicable and cost breakdowns for parts and tooling.
Draws die sections and parts in 2D (DXF format).
Develops new blanks for die and fabrication try out.
Maintains updated software for 3D and 2D models as well as programing software updates for Metalix (CNC KAD).
Coordinates Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) meetings.
Updates and manages program in Excel to track due dates and development of new parts.
Develops new blanks for parts that are currently outsourced to A&C Welding.
Writes BOMs for new work or work brought in by outside suppliers to enter QAD.
Works directly with Purchasing to ensure material is ordered for new parts and ensures pricing is up to date.
Quotes potential outsourcing and placement of existing work that needs to be moved to another supplier.
Designs plant layouts for equipment moves and sets up current equipment in new locations as needed.
Develops new cleaning and alternative methods to manufacture, clean, and improve part quality.
Develops timelines for new product launches for customers when needed.
Manages supplier payments to ensure the supplier payments are made on time.
Measures additional 3D models for mission dimensions not on part print.
Works with customer in Solidworks for 3D model to flatten and start developing a 2D DXF and Print.
Adjusts 2D prints for fabrication as needed.
Maintains controlled Engineering Documentation and maintains the quote log.
Develops new suppliers and ensures they have all sample tooling and prints for smooth product launch.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Education and Experience - High School Diploma or GED required; College degree required. Prior Tooling Engineer experience.

Ability to interact clearly and effectively, in both written and oral communication, with supervisors and staff members.

Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. This role requires an above-average knowledge of Microsoft Office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to remain in a stationary position for While performing the duties of this job, the individual is to remain in a stationary position for 60 percent of the time while operating the machine on the shop floor. They constantly operate motorized equipment and machines. The individual needs to occasionally move about on the shop floor to transport parts, access tools, equipment, parts, and other necessary items to complete the work order. The individual frequently positions self to operate and repair machines, including underneath and above the machine. They use the hands continuously while performing all job duties. Most of the activities involve fine and gross manipulation of items. They must be able to exchange accurate information with other individuals in the office and shop. Must be able to detect mechanical issues and part defects from short distances to determine what action needs to be taken. They must regularly push, pull, and/or move up to 60 pounds. The individual must be capable of carrying and loading different parts and tools required to complete the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment. Due to the risk of electrical hazards while installing or servicing, additional personal protective equipment and procedures may need to be followed.
Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment as situations dictate on various job and construction sites. Due to exposure of machinery and electrical currents, employees are required to wear personal protective equipment such as ear and eye protection. During warmer months, the required personal protective equipment may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual will be exposed to loud machinery or equipment.
