About This Position

Job Summary:

The Operating Room/Endoscopy staff nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care of patients undergoing surgical/endoscopic intervention. The RN is directly responsible to the Operating Room PCC Nurse. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development; possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status; and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. This position requires “Call” and you must be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes if called out.

Meets established standards of practice of assessment and reassessment from admission to discharge as evidenced by appropriate documentation according to policy, procedures, protocols, and patient and physician satisfaction. Consistently plans patient care in conjunction with other disciplines to meet the patient care goals and individualized needs of patient. This is evidenced by documentation in the interdisciplinary plan of care and the multidisciplinary patient progress notes, Is competent in patient interventions as evidenced by safe administration of medications, treatments, procedures, infection control, and addressing changes in status to safely care for patients. This is evidenced by documentation in the medical record, and patient outcomes. Consistently evaluates the practices of care delivered to patients and adjusts care according to established standards of practices and physician order. Monitors and controls activities in the operating room in order to assure safety and sterility is consistently maintained. Demonstrates the aptitude to anticipate the needs of the patient, surgeon, or other providers per procedure or in the event of an emergency. Demonstrates the ability to recognize and intervene in critical situations Consistently educates patients and family on equipment, medications, safety, pain control, discharge needs and follow up instructions. Completes accurate and timely documentation Is competent to access and utilize EMR for the provision of patient care. Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patients in performance of duties and responsibilities. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job specific responsibilities related to safety, security, emergency preparedness, control of hazardous materials/waste, life safety medical equipment and utility systems as outlined in the hospital's environment of care plan. Demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of the operating room circulator as defined in the Surgical Services Policy.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program.

Work Experience:

Experience as OR/Endo RN preferred but not required. At least, 2 years hands on nursing experience required

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS

Additional Certification/Licensure - obtained based on the required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support
Within 30 Days of Employment

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Within 90 Days of Employment

Required

  • Moderate Sedation
Within 90 Days of Employment

Required

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support
Within 180 Days of Employment

Required

  • Telemetry Nurse Education
Within 180 Days of Employment
