About This Position

This is a professional/technical position that reports directly to the Program Director. It involves supporting the development and enhancement of the Teacher Apprenticeship Program through interconnected work with the Education Department. This role is ideal for an experienced educator with a strong foundation in elementary education and advanced expertise in curriculum design. The Coordinator will play a pivotal role in aligning program content with state standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices in teacher preparation. Work requires the analysis of complex problems, planning of various interrelated activities, and sometimes the coordination of multiple projects or simultaneous functions. Frequently called upon to resolve complex problems within the program where recognized principles may be inadequate to determine a course of action. Regularly required to work cooperatively with others, both in and out of the college, to meet the needs of students, the program, the department, the community, and the profession.
Essential Functions/Duties:
  • Assists with the establishment of policies and procedures governing the Teacher Apprenticeship Program.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and updates (as needed) the existing curriculum for the Teacher Apprenticeship Program to ensure integration of programmatic requirements throughout the program.
  • Ensures alignment with grant requirements, Florida Department of Education and Programmatic Accreditor standards and competencies.
  • Collaborates with Program Director, faculty, and external partners to develop new instructional content.
  • Lead curriculum revision initiatives based on grant and programmatic requirements, assessment data, and evolving educational trends.
  • Assists in the collection and dissemination of the above information to the appropriate recipients at the College (administrators, counselors, and program students) and outside the College (Florida Department of Education, national accrediting body and each clinical affiliate).
  • Assists with the evaluation of students’ readiness for entry into the profession.
  • Assists in identifying the adjunct instructors.
  • Travels to clinical sites to complete student worksite observations, monitor application of required skills areas, and give recommendations for correction or improvement.
  • Travels to clinical sites, as needed, to serve as a liaison between sites and the College.
  • Prepares reports, as needed.

Consulting Tasks:
  • Significant consultation is expected for problems requiring judgment and tact to obtain cooperation or approval of action to be taken.
  • Works independently on broad general assignments responsible for planning work. Makes major decisions within broad limitations of policies, referring to superiors when large investments or long-term programs are involved.

Supervising Staff:
  • Occasional supervision of students in field.


Required Skills:
  • Requires ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a wide variety of individuals within and outside the department, and frequently with students, faculty, and staff of the College. Significant consultation is expected for problems requiring judgment and tact to obtain cooperation or approval of action to be taken.
  • Knowledge of Florida State Standards, Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAPS), Reading and ESOL endorsement requirements, and other related components.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with college personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Working conditions:
  • Travel will be required – occasional day travel within Polk County but may require overnight travel as well.
  • Normal office working conditions.

Salary and Benefits Information
  • This position is a level P15.

Required Education:
  • A bachelor's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from a regionally accredited college or university is required.

Preferred Education:
  • A master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from a regionally accredited university is preferred.
Required Experience:
  • Three (3) years of professional teaching experience in a K-12 school setting is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in elementary-level curriculum development and instructional design required.
  • Extensive experience in creating and using a Learning Management System to develop and implement curriculum and instruction.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience as a teacher mentor is preferred.
