Job Title: Die Maker
Reports To: Tool Room Supervisor / Plant Manager
Department: Tool & Die / Manufacturing
Job Summary
The Die Maker is responsible for the design, construction, repair, and maintenance of dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures used in the manufacturing process. This role ensures all tooling meets production requirements, maintains tight tolerances, and supports efficient, safe, and high-quality operations.
Key Responsibilities
Build, assemble, and fit dies, tools, and fixtures according to engineering blueprints and specifications.
Set up and operate manual machining equipment such as mills, lathes, and grinders.
Inspect and troubleshoot dies and tooling to identify wear, defects, or performance issues.
Perform die repair, sharpening, and preventive maintenance to extend tool life.
Work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure tooling meets operational needs.
Maintain accurate records of die maintenance, modifications, and improvements.
Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Recommend improvements to tooling processes to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or apprenticeship in Tool & Die Making preferred.
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Tool & Die Maker in a manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of die construction, metal stamping processes, and tool steels.
Skilled in blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
Proficiency with manual machine shop equipment.
Ability to diagnose tooling problems and provide effective solutions.
Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Standing, bending, and working with hands for extended periods.
Exposure to a manufacturing environment (noise, machinery, oils, and coolants).
Work Schedule
Full-time, primarily first shift; overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs.
