LOCATION: Phoenix, AZ

SCHEDULE: Full-time, may include holidays, events, weekends as needed.

CPLC De Colores Domestic Violence programs provides a safe, secure for families to heal from the traumatizing effects of abuse. Shelter and community-based services meet survivors where they are to help them discover their strengths and regain their freedom.

WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT KITCHEN SUPPORT PARTNER?

  • You are excited to serve others and uplift survivors of domestic violence as they heal from their traumas.
  • You speak Spanish/English, have a food handlers card and experience preparing large amounts of food for 80+ people.
  • You are resourceful and can come up with nutritious meals from available ingredients.
  • You know your way around a commercial kitchen and are always willing to jump in to help the team!

HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?
You will provide quality food service for all at the shelter, creating a welcoming, non-judgmental dining environment for all who come through your area. You will be responsible for the daily functioning and maintenance of a community kitchen utilized to provide meals for the residents of the De Colores Domestic Violence and Family Homeless Shelters.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate food service activities with all components of De Colores
  • Purchase food needed for meals and snacks served on-site.
  • Oversee the purchasing of all foods for the program.
  • Prepare, organize, and set up the food for meals and snacks.
  • Plan and maintain current menu as appropriate considering food inventory
  • Oversee all activities of the kitchen and dining areas
  • Clean and maintain kitchen, food service utensils, equipment, and food storage areas to standards as mandated by federal, state and local laws and best food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Compile monthly reports including receipts accurately and submit them to Finance Department on a timely monthly basis.
  • Responsible for picking up food donations from local food banks
  • Participate as an active member of De Colores’ staff in the areas of program activities including staff meetings, trainings and special events.
  • Communicate and work effectively with other staff members.
  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to cultural issues and community practices of low income and at-risk families, including dual language speakers.
  • Maintain confidentiality in administrative and programmatic matters.
  • On-call coverage once a week
    • Overnight shift 10:30 pm – 7:00 am
  • Work a minimum of two (2) holidays a year. Also required to work during the CPLC’s Christmas holiday week.
    • Overnight shift 10:30 pm – 7:00 am
    • Morning shift 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
    • Evening shift 2:30 pm – 10:30 pm
    • Monday through Sunday
  • Perform other duties as requested by immediate supervisor necessary to carry out the administrative/programmatic activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in working in a commercial or community style kitchen preferred.
  • Able to work with clients who experience domestic violence and homelessness.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Must have current food handler card.
  • Must have current driver’s license in good standing.
  • Must have current Fingerprint Clearance Card due to DES funding requirements.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Able to work in an active environment with clientele that requires special attention.
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and use various commercial-style kitchen equipment, tools and utensils.
  • Able to work in kitchen environments with heat, gas/electricity, and walk-in fridge, able to be active for entire shift.
