About This Position

The Community Outreach Specialist must have a dedication to promoting access to technical training for everyone and a commitment to working with community partners. This position requires building relationships with and creating awareness of technical education throughout the community. Outcomes center on implementing strategies to recruit students from all backgrounds. This position fosters a campus culture that promotes belonging and success for all students.

The incumbent works under the direction of the Director of Admissions.


1. Develop and implement strategies for student recruitment.

2. As an ambassador of the college, seek to build and maintain strong, positive relationships within the community.

3. Promote opportunities at the college through presentations and public speaking, set up recruitment tables at community partners, and represent the institution at community events.

4. Provide prospective students with information regarding program options, job placement, occupational salaries, start dates, and class availability.

5. Assist the admissions department with planning and implementation of events, both on and off campus.

6. Collaborate with other departments at the College to coordinate joint initiatives and leverage resources to enhance the impact of community outreach.

7. Disseminate information and current promotional materials to community partners.

8. Utilize customer relations software management systems.

9. Attend meetings, track commitments, and follow up on assignments.

10. Provide status reporting regarding projects and outcomes as requested which may include written reports or presentations.

11. Write or draft correspondence, reports, and documents.

12. It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within their capabilities as determined by management.

13. Working hours often include coverage for early morning and evening functions.


Education and Experience Requirements:

1. Two years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience (customer service, education, communication, human resources, psychology, counseling, social work, or community engagement).

2. Capability to be an engaging public speaker and presenter.

3. Exceptional interpersonal skills.

4. Proficiency in building relationships of trust.

5. Ability to work independently or in a team.

6. A self-driven work ethic, high energy level, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.

7. Dependability, punctuality, and ability to manage scheduling commitments.

8. Must have a valid driver’s license.

9. Must be proficient with computers, Microsoft Office, and Windows operating systems.


Education and Experience Preferred:

1. Experience in higher education with technical college students is helpful.

2. Experience working with community members is helpful.

3. Spanish speaking proficiency is desirable.


Physical Requirements:

1. Work is a combination of sitting comfortably at a desk and physical exertion which includes walking for long distances and standing for extended time periods.

2. Ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 30 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time, and driving an automobile, etc.

3. Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.

4. Typically, this work will be performed on site at the main campus, at community partner locations, and local community events.

5. Consistent attendance is essential to fulfilling the responsibilities of the role and maintaining a productive work environment.

6. This position requires the incumbent to travel between work, community partners, and community events.

7. Position occasionally works in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather related heat and cold, rain, wind, and related elements.


WORKING HOURS: Flexible schedule with standard hours of Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.; evening and weekend availability required as needed.

CONDITIONAL OFFER: A conditional offer of employment will be made pending satisfactory completion of a background investigation.
