Responsibilities
Graduate degree in Health Care, Business Administration or a related field Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare, with a focus on ambulatory services and patient access in an academic medical center or large healthcare organization. Comprehensive understanding of ambulatory care operations, access management, and healthcare industry trends. Proven track record in strategic planning, financial management, and achieving operational excellence. Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams. Very strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders effectively. Ability to efficiently and effectively multi-task and manage competing demands. Ability to reprioritize as circumstances require and to communicate impacts. Experience in driving change and innovation within a complex healthcare environment. Familiarity with academic medical center settings, faculty practice plans, and research integration is highly desirable. Broad knowledge of modern healthcare and business administration, systems, practices and principles. Knowledge of sound financial management practices, budget development, and analysis as applied to modern healthcare financial management. Advanced quantitative knowledge necessary to analyze data and make informed decisions. Effective managerial and administrative capabilities as applied to the management of multiple programs and clinics. Key Responsibilities & Performance Standards
Operational
- In partnership with Healthcare and Practice Plan leadership, develops operational goals and objectives for Ambulatory and implements strategies and tactics to optimize the delivery of ambulatory care while meeting financial and strategic goals.
- Analyzes and monitors operational performance for Ambulatory, ensuring departments are improving performance on key indicators via ambulatory dashboard.
- Develops and/or implements institutional policies and procedures to enhance efficient and effective operations.
- Seeks opportunities to further integrate ambulatory care with overall OHSU Health delivery system including administrative functions and departments.
- Enhances operational effectiveness, emphasizing cost containment without jeopardizing patient care priorities, improvement, innovation or quality of care.
Strategy
- Participates in the development and implementation of the long-range goals and objectives of OHSU Health.
- Translates strategic plans into operational action plans which guide resource allocation and coordination of clinical personnel.
- Works collaboratively with the Office of Digital Health to expand and optimize digital ambulatory encounters and remote access to healthcare
Access
- Oversee successful implementation, operation, and optimization of Ambulatory Mission Control – Connected Care Center.
- Develop, recommend and implement the philosophy, guiding principles, tactics and policies that achieve maximum capacity to support optimal success for OHSU patients and referral sources.
- Accountable for achieving significant and continuous improvement in access metrics across OHSU Health.
- Develop, integrate, and oversee template and scheduling practices to ensure consistency with OHSU scheduling and referral policies.
Quality
- Develops an infrastructure to improve overall performance ensuring safety, quality and consistency of practice relative to the competency of ambulatory staff which is congruent with regulatory requirements, Magnet standards, etc.
- With direction from the OHSU Health quality structure, partners with the Ambulatory Associate Chief Medical Officer to lead the quality improvement agenda in the Ambulatory environment of care in alignment with overall OHSU Health priorities.
- Strives toward best in class for quality as measured by Annual Ambulatory Scorecard.
Finance
- Optimize, in collaboration with the Chief Ambulatory Officer and Sr. Associate Dean for Clinical Practice for OHSU Practice Plan and OHSU Health CFO on ambulatory operating and capital budgeting processes for OHSU Health ambulatory practices.
- In conjunction with the OHSU budget and financial review process, establish, maintain and manage benchmark-based operating budgets for ambulatory operations.
- Build on existing benchmarks and targets to assess programmatic gains and to demonstrate the impact of services.
- Support the School of Medicine in the analysis of clinician recruitment (including support staff): needs analysis, financial impact, and funding requirements.
Leadership
- Builds credibility and trust with department chairs and administrators to support the continuum of care.
- Oversee the recruitment, selection, development, motivation and retention of an engaged workforce, including but not limited to establishing performance plans aligned with organizational goals at all levels, providing timely and clear performance feedback recognizing accomplishment and taking corrective or disciplinary action, as required, to sustain high levels of performance.
- Contributes to the establishment of an academic teaching hospital which provided educational and research experiences to students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff.
- Leads and attends in a variety of relevant OHSU Health, OPP, School of Medicine and OHSU committees, work groups and meetings.
