About This Position
Position Summary
The Surgical Services Registered Nurse’s primary focus is addressing the needs of the surgical patient, families, and /or significant others preoperatively, intraoperatively, postoperatively. Utilization of critical thinking skills to apply nursing process knowledge to achieve optimal patient outcomes. This position provides direct nursing care for patients of all ages.
Key Accountabilities:
- Assesses patient’s condition based upon observation, examination, and / or interview, laboratory findings, and other pertinent information
- Completes assessment in a specified time frame.
- Identifies and consistently recognizes changes in normal and abnormal parameters in the patient’s physiological and psychological condition.
- Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize and execute the patient’s plan of care consistent with patient assessment data and physician’s treatment plans and professional standards of evidence-based practice.
- Directs and delegates support personnel in implementing the patient’s plan of care, provides supervision and guidance.
- Performs all technical skills required for unit patient population such as, but not limited to, IV venipuncture, restraint application, sterile dressings, etc.
- Documentation reflects evaluation of patient response to nursing actions.
- Evaluates and documents patient’s response to nursing care and modifies or revises treatment plans, and / or contacts physicians as circumstances require.
- Renders professional nursing care, including administering medications, starting intravenous fluids and blood products.
- Consistently follows patient care and facility policy and procedures in performance of one’s duties.
- Implements nursing interventions to achieve progress toward expected patient outcomes or to stabilize a patient’s condition and / or prevent complications.
- Provides and documents patient / family education based on diagnosis, treatment plan or prescribed medical regimen in accordance with patient / family readiness and ability to learn.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license with the Minnesota Board of Nursing, in good standing
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification for Health Care Providers (if not current, will need to be obtained in the first 6 months).
- One year perioperative nursing experience, i.e. scrubbing and circulating
- Current ACLS certification (if not current, will need to be obtained in the first 6 months).
- Current PALS or PEARS certification (if not current, will need to be obtained in the first 6 months).
- Current Certified Sedations Course (if not current, will need to be obtained in the first 6 months).
- Basic EKG interpretation
Schedule:
- 60hrs/2wks
- Start times between the hours of 5:30am & 8:00am, end times between 2:00pm and 5:30pm
- No weekend or holiday requirements
