About This Position

Description:

The Medical Assistant (MA) assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a practitioner. This position interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height) and records information on patients' charts. The MA prepares treatment rooms and completes thorough documentation in electronic health records. The MA answers telephones, screens callers, relays messages and greets visitors. The position may be responsible for drawing and collecting blood samples from patients for laboratory analysis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist patients by providing information, services, and assistance

Welcome patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone

Verify patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit

Prepare patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the exam room

Perform preliminary physical tests: take blood pressure, weight and temperature; report patient history summary, phlebotomy, and other assigned tasks

Secure patient information and maintain patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keep patient information confidential. Ensure accurate Electronic Medical Records documentation

Maintain a safe, secure and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations

Complete records by recording patient examination, treatment and test results

Maintain medical supply inventory and perform preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating

Communicate with insurances as well as other clinics and patients

Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

Medical Assistant Experience: At least 1 year

Vital Signs Experience: At least 1 year

EMR Systems Experience: At least 1 year

High school diploma

Medical Assisting diploma depending on state requirements

Bilingual Spanish preferred

Physical & Mental Requirements:

Talking and hearing Must have good clear speech and hearing, both face-to-face and on the phone.

Seeing Clear vision at 20 inches or less, with or without corrective lenses; vision sufficient to drive motor vehicles safely, with or without corrective lenses.

Reasoning & Mental Abilities: Uses critical thinking skills to interpret information furnished in written, verbal or schedule form. Makes sound decisions and sets goals based on available information and evaluates situations and requirements to plan and adjust work accordingly.

Projects accurate future occurrences based on current or historic data. Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision; able to make decisions about the severity of variable situations and evaluate the most appropriate response; able to make appropriate decisions related to customer requests.
