About This Position
Join our welcoming and dynamic team as an International Student Coordinator! In this role, you'll play a key part in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for our international students, ensuring they feel valued, connected, and empowered throughout their academic journey.
What You'll Do:
- Create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for international students and provide continuous outreach to ensure their needs are met.
- Promote cultural awareness and appreciation by connecting students with resources, programs, and opportunities to enhance their experience on campus.
- Manages the International Student and Scholar Management (ISSM) database, oversees interface to Banner and SEVIS, website maintenance and forms. Creates, collects and maintains data.
- Offer guidance and support on important matters such as university regulations, immigration policies, and procedures, helping students navigate their academic and personal lives.
- Serve as a liaison between international students, campus departments, and external organizations to ensure smooth communication and support.
- Assist in developing and implementing programming and retention initiatives designed to engage and support international students throughout their time at the University.
- As a Designated School Official (DSO), serve as an essential point of contact for the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
- Interpret and apply complex Department of Homeland Security immigration policies, ensuring students are in compliance with regulations.

- Bachelor's Degree
- Master's degree in Higher Education or related field
- Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Office Suite, (Word, Excel, Outlook) Banner, records management systems.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent resident
- 3 or more years of demonstrated experience working in higher education

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.

Veterans: Veterans who qualify for preference must provide proof of eligibility within ten (10) working days of submitting an application. Work Authorization Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university, and it's important to highlight that benefits from state-sponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
