The Kienzle Family Maternity Center Patient Care Assistant's main function is to maintain a safe, clean and prepared environment throughout the maternity center and to assist in the care of patients under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. The care provided must comply with the established standards and practices of Crouse Hospital. Job Responsibilities: To provide direct care to selected patients throughout their hospital stay, being sensitive to their psychological needs and cultural differences as directed/delegated by the professional nurse. To prepare birthing rooms and delivery rooms for cases. Assists the professional nurse during deliveries and operative cases. To restock all areas of birthing center; maintain and reorder equipment and supplies when necessary. Assures carts, equipment and instruments are all accessible, complete and in working order. To break down and prepare all used instruments and carts for transport/exchange with Central Service Reprocessing. To perform housekeeping tasks when necessary. To assume other duties as delegated by the unit manager/designee. Job Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated ability to verbally communicate effectively. Must have basic life support (BLS) certification at the time of hire or within 2 weeks after hire. Successfully complete perinatal patient care assistant orientation program. Knowledge of instruments required on completion of training.
