Nurse at Teaching Family Homes of Upper Michigan – Marquette, Michigan

SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Residential Director, the nurse will provide medical consultation to Teaching Family Homes staff members in order to ensure the medical safety and physical health and well-being of youth in care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Make contact within 24 hours of any new youth or discharging youth previous or new placement to review medications, youth health, or ongoing medical needs.

2. Take youth vitals prior to psychiatry appointments.

3. Keep documentation of each youth and correspondence with other facilities and psychiatrist

4. On an as-needed basis, conduct post-restraint assessments of the physical and psychological well-being of the youth, the youth’s behavior, the appropriateness of the intervention measures and any complications resulting from the intervention.

5. Provide consultation regarding medication or other matters relating to the medical, physical, or psychological well-being of the child from a medical perspective, in a language staff members can understand.

6. When necessary, make follow-up recommendations to assist in the development and implementation of the youth’s treatment goals, plans and strategies.

7. Conduct themselves in a manner which provides appropriate modeling for the youth according to community norms and agency guidelines.

8. Abide by a professional code of ethics as established by the Teaching-Family Association.

9. Operate the program within guidelines established by administration and in compliance with the State of Michigan "Rules and Regulations for Child Care Institutions."

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Meet qualifications as a licensed registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.

2. Prefer experience in youth psychiatry or related field.

3. Be of good moral character.

4. Michigan driver’s license and good driving record. Adequate vehicle insurance if using own vehicle in the course of employment.
