Reporting directly to the City Administrator, the Public Works Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for a wide array of municipal functions:
Utilities: Water, wastewater, and pressurized irrigation systems.
Infrastructure: Streets, transportation, and stormwater systems.
Operations: Sanitation, solid waste, fleet, and asset management.
The Director exercises substantial professional autonomy, advising the City Administrator and City Council on capital planning, regulatory compliance, and public works policy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESExecutive Leadership & Strategy
Establish long-range goals and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and professional development.
Operations & Project DeliveryOversee maintenance programs and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (IDEQ) requirements. Lead the planning and design of major capital improvement projects to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.
Financial StewardshipPrepare and administer the department’s annual operating budget and manage the City’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILEThe City is looking for a seasoned professional with:
Experience: 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal public works, with at least five years in senior management.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field.
Skills: Proven success in managing complex budgets and multidisciplinary teams.
