About This Position
Job Summary
The Operations Manager is a hands-on role and is responsible for overseeing the management of the day-to-day operational needs of the manufacturing departments including laser production, stockroom, shipping and receiving, and facilities. The manager collaborates closely with closely with RMA, Quality, Engineering, Program Management and other relevant teams to ensure operational needs and customer commitments are being met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
- With the support of the Operations Supervisor, manages and directs the daily activities of all assemblers, laser tech personnel, RMA personnel, ESS technicians, material handlers and facilities.
- Collaborates with RMA Manager to ensure resources and personnel are appropriately allocated.
- Monitors and maintains performance to schedule and develops plans to meet productivity demands and complete by the required delivery times.
- Responsible for the safety, productivity, quality, morale and overall performance of their direct report staff and ensures that specified quality standards are met for all tasks completed.
- Understands and participates in the development of department budgets, staffing plans and obligations.
- Establishes and promotes teamwork atmosphere between departments to accomplish company mission.
- Trains, mentors and disciplines subordinates.
- Ensures performance evaluations for his/her subordinates are meaningful and completed in a timely manner.
- Presents oral and written reports defining plans, problems, and resolutions to appropriate levels of management.
- Responsible for production integrity of customer deliverable product
- Champions continuous improvement.
Facilities
- Maintains necessary preventative maintenance cycles on time and steps taken to ensure production machines are at peak performance.
- Oversees facilities technician and provides guidance for all core facilities services, including budgeting, compliance, and reporting
- With support of the Site Lead, this role contributes to tenant lease responsibilities, vendor management, and project execution
- Provides project management for facility projects, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, vendor coordination, and on-time/on-budget completion
- In conjunction with EHS lead, ensure safe work practices, environmental compliance, and adherence to lease requirements (e.g., hazardous materials handling, damage remediation)
- Serves as key stakeholder in internal and external audits; generate reports and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead site emergency response efforts
REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
- U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Strong projects management skills
- Solid understanding of electromechanical systems, optics, aerospace products or similar technologies
- Experience with military grade laser manufacturing
- Knowledge and understanding of, FAR/DFARs, Prime and program flow down requirements, Quality Assurance Codes, and Trade Compliance Laws.
- Proven ability to lead and guide employees and foster a team environment.
- Possess exceptional communication (both oral and written) and listening skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
- Strong relationship building skills at all levels of the organization and the ability to work effectively across functions within a matrix environment.
- Continuous improvement experience or certificate in Lean Six Sigma.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and disseminate information contained.
- Excellent organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail.
- Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and possess a willingness to accept accountability for one’s own actions and his/her subordinates.
- Able and willing to take on new projects and learn additional aspects of the operation.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Able to work additional hours, including evenings and weekends to meet customer commitments.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 7 years prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 5 years of prior related experience
- 6+ years’ experience leading / guiding personnel and / or projects with increasing levels of responsibility in a DoD environment
- 6+ years’ experience using Microsoft Office tools
- 5+ years’ experience working with military grade optics or lasers in a manufacturing environment
- 4+ years’ experience creating and presenting project-level reports, presentations and deliverables that reflect risk and status to program management and senior management
- 4+ years developing schedules for staff and / or projects
- 3+ years participating in / leading GEMBA
- Experience with ITAR shipping requirements to foreign countries
- Laser Safety Officer certification
